It’s a Good Week for Books!

Yesterday was “Read a Book Day”! (yay!) Well, at least we think it was. We couldn’t exactly find any factual information about the institution of this holiday, and the list we discovered it on may also have recognized other, shall we say, interesting occasions such as “Cheese Pizza Day” and “Collect Rocks Day.” Regardless, we appreciate anything that promotes books and reading so we went with it. We celebrated  the joy of reading by listening to one of our all-time faves, The Time Traveler’s Wife. Did you show your books some love yesterday?

There also happens to be something a little more established than “Read a Bood Day” in the literary world on the horizon. On September 8th, we’ll be celebrating UNESCO’s International Literacy Day. This day recognizes literacy and its ability to bring people closer to achieving individual freedoms and a better understanding of the world, as well as preventing and resolving conflict.

So take the next few days, the next month, the next year (you get our point) and continue reading and listening to your favorite books, instill a love of reading in your kids by tucking them in with a fun bedtime story, and be thankful that we have access to these amazing things that entertain us, teach us and empower us!

Check out a few great audio books to celebrate “International Literacy Day” with:

The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy: The Primary Phase, Douglas Adams    Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte    Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston    Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury
