A Man Called Ove

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By:

Narrated By: George Newbern

Publisher: Dreamscape Media, LLC

Date: July 2014

Duration: 9 hours 11 minutes

Summary:

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him 'the bitter neighbor from hell.' But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove's mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents' association to their very foundations.

"As Newbern reveals the events that made Ove into such a curmudgeon, with too big a heart, his straightforward, tender performance will have listeners laughing through their tears." - AudioFile Magazine

I giggled often and was touched by this novel. The narrator was awesome!

Not what I expected. I laughed a little, a lot less than I expected. More than anything I felt depressed or grumpy throughout the whole book because Ove can wear off on you! Throughout the book I just wanted to say geez life's not fair, suck it up buttercup! I enjoyed the ending though.

Loved this book!! It took me a minute to get into it, but happy I stuck with it. Made me laugh and cry...

  • Erica Rowan

Just, Amazing. What a wonderful book. It will break your heart and make you laugh out loud!... sometimes on the same page. :)

  • Cynthia matsakis

This book held me throughout - the humor, delivered perfectly by narrator, was relentless... the character absolutely compelling and frustratingly consistent which kept it from being sentimental. I loved most how the story unwound from the middle of the story, a technique I normally don't like.

Two days after finishing Ove, I feel haunted, in a good way, by its poigniancy. I agree with other reviews that refer to the book starting slowly. It does, but the story builds from its quiet foundation to substantive places that will make you laugh and cry.
