Summary
Min Dobbs knows that happily-ever-after is a fairy tale, especially with a man who asked her to dinner to win a bet. Cal Morrisey knows commitment is impossible, especially with a woman as cranky as Min Dobbs. When they say good-bye at the end of their evening, they cut their losses and agree never to see each other again. But Fate has other plans, and it’s not long before Min and Cal are dealing with a jealous ex-boyfriend, Krispy Kremes, a determined psychologist, chaos theory, a mutant cat, Chicken Marsala, and more risky propositions than either of them ever dreamed of including the biggest gamble of all—real love.

Cute book, cute characters. Someone suggested Jennifer Cruisie to me and I’m looking forward to checking out her other books!

I really enjoyed this book, the he said she said is tedious but otherwise not bad. Some narrators change voices & a few even have male & female take turns reading, not this book. Despite that I enjoyed Min & Cal I liked the realism of having to spend more time together to really get to know someone who isn't your immediate type. It's just a plain fun book.

i reallly love the story! a little too much "cal said" "min said" "cal said". anoccasional change between he asked, he said, he jelled, he whispered.....would have been nice. but i just love the story!!! would have liked a little more character in the voice of each charakter. there are scenes with conversations on the phone, where you can tell by one voice sounding like it is coming from the off, but then you cannot differentiate between men and women.

I don't give 5 star reviews but this book was great! I loved it! The narrator made it even better. I loved the ending and I loved all the characters... I'm getting more books from the same author.

I was a bit concerned in the beginning...all the "he said", "she said"...but once you get use to it and just listen to the story it is delightful. I loved the characters and the story line. As a "large girl" myself...it gave me hope :)

Average story. I could predict the ending. It was okay, but nothing special.

I thought this was a delightful story. Big boned women do have a chance. Just reserved other books by Crusie. In the process of book two. She has a wonderful, natural and honest way of portraying her characters. They are real, everyday people.

Excellent, excellent, excellent. If you're tired of the usual fare of light, romance-type novels, you need to read Jennifer Crusie. It's witty, intelligent, with great dialog. You never once want to stick your finger down your throat.

I am embarrassed to admit -- but I loved this book. Yes, I agree that all of the "Min saids" and "Cal saids" were annoying, distracting and noticeable – and yes, the Cals of the world don't usually fall for the Mins, but that is why books like this exist so we can fantasize about the happily ever after even if you are not a twig.

Would I recommend this book? - No Here's the trouble - the premise on which it is based is totally flawed. Gorgeous, hunky men do not go out and are not attracted to women on the "husky" end of the spectrum. Your numerical rating in the looks catagory is pretty much like water - it seeks it's own level. You may be able to go up the scale a couple of numbers depending on your age and how much money is involved, but that's about it. If you want the fairy tale version - OK, it's a cute story. Second - the reader - OMG! This book was read like a script. blah blah blah - he said blah blah blah - she said. Other books I have listened to, the reader uses infleciton, accent, tone, to indicate the different characters - this reader not only included the "he said", "she said" but she also included a little pause as well. ARGH!!!!!!

Bet Me was typical Jennifer Crusie. Somewhat predictable, but totally enjoyable. Perfect for a mindless commute.

I loved this book found myself sitting in the car waiting for the CD to end. The end of the book was great, it's nice to have a book truely end and not just stop.

I enjoyed this book even though it was a little light on content. The author reeled you in with emotion and jitters. It was conversational and gossip-like which is the backbone of any good girly dialogue. Easily passes the time...

Jennifer Crusie generally has a lot of humor in her books, and while it wasn't completely missing from "Bet Me", it was buried beneath a relatively unappealing, rather nasty heroine with a chip on her shoulder and a "too good to be true" guy who is inexplicably willing to take her on. The plot contrivance (they meet through a bet) gets really stale really fast to the point of annoyance, the narration is bland and doesn't capture much of Cruisie's usual lightness. In fact as the book goes on, the heroine Min and her friends resemble nothing more than a less satisfied, less successful gang of "Sex and the City" wannabes...one of the characters a pure Samantha rip-off even down to the inflections in her voice. Unless you're really into romances and really into Jennifer Cruisie, I wouldn't bother with this one.

The storyline was cute and even unique however the author needs a dictionary or a thesaurus! I almost gave up on it because I grew so tired of hearing Minerva "said", Cal "said", Bonnie "said", he "said", she "said'. There are other ways to convey a story.

I bet you will love this book if you like chic-lit! It was an easy read and very entertaining. Laugh out loud parts and relatable characters made this one of my favorites. It made me actually look forward to my commute everyday.

This book started out somewhat slow and I was loosing interest however as it progessed I began to really love it! I was pleasantly surprised at how much I ended up liking it and was very impressed with the story.

It got so irritating with the he said/she said that I returned it immediately. I'm sure it would have been a great book if "Cal said,Min said,David said etc.." was left out. I think we're smart enough to figure out who said what without the author pointing it out for us.

What a great book, fun and easy to listen to. Made me smile and laugh, and there isn't enough laughter in the world. A great cheer up book. Good read, would definately suggest!!

I loved this book! Although I do think parts were dragged on for a little longer than need be, overall, I couldn't wait to get back into my car and drive somewhere so I could see what would happen next. I recommend this book to any chick lit fan or anyone who just likes a good happy ending, with the usual dips and turns that make a good book so inviting.

I found this book to be pretty shallow and hated all of the "he/she said" comments. I was surprised when I saw how high others had rated this book. I was so disappointed that I sent it back early.

Very entertaining book, easy to listen once you get passed the reading saying "he said", "she said".

I really enjoyed this book. It was light and funny and chaotic and kept me interested. I listen when I'm doing boring housework and it kept me going even with many interruptions.

Very funny, well written book. Excellent. I had to listen to it over and over again before moving on to the next book.

This book made me laugh out loud. I didn't mind my commute the whole time I was listening to it. As a prior reviewer said, the "Min said," "Cal said" was annoying at times, but as long as you can ignore it, it is a fabulous listen!! Very funny, sweet and believable. I definitely recommend it.

This was my first Crusie book. It was a great story that most women will relate to because the characters are so believable. I did not, however, enjoy the reader since she constantly identified each character after every sentence, i.e.: "Min said"..."Cal said." It became very annoying. Otherwise, it was a great read.

I absolutely loved this book. The reader was fabulous. I found myself both looking forward to the next disc and being sorry that I had one less to go! I found myself smiling and giggling throughout the "read". You will fall in love with the two main characters and even though you just know what is going to happen, you really root for them to be happy! The only part that I did not like was that it came in 2 parts! All else was fabulous! Enjoy the "read".

I liked this movie so much that I couldn't wait for the second half to get to me before I bought it to finish it. Great book and typical Jennifer Crusie. A great summer read!

This was just too funny! There were times I actually laughed out loud. What a great story with enough recurring elements to really tie the whole story together. Very amusing with a "real" perspective. The writing was simple without a lot of unnecessary pretty words. Loved this book. Highly recommend.

THE NARRATOR OF THIS BOOK WAS AWFUL. I ALMOST SENT IT BACK AFTER THE FIRST 2 DISCS. I DID NOT LIKE THE WAY THE AUTHOR WROTE THE BOOK IN THE WAY SHE HAD TO PUT THE PERSON'S NAME AND "SAID" AFTER EACH SENTENCE. I.E. "YES" MINERVA SAID; "WHY" CAL SAID; ETC ETC ETC. I WOULD BET THAT THE WORD "SAID" IS IN THE BOOK AT LEAST 1000 TIMES. VERY ANNOYING!!! YOU COULD FOLLOW THE STORY WITHOUT ALL OF THAT.

A great funny story about a gorgeous, successful man that gets thrown together by a bet with a nice looking, funny, chubby girl and loves her just for being her. The bet definetly comes between them but in the end what difference does a bet make anyway? This is a great light story which made me laugh out loud and cheer for the not so skinny girls to get the guy. You can never go wrong with reading or listening to a Jennifer Crusie story.
