Date: March 2007

Duration: 14 hours 15 minutes

When 15-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

This book would have probably been ok. The narrators voice and delivery was terrible. Annoying, monotone and ditzy.

I read this book a long time ago and didn\'t really enjoy it. Since then, I\'ve read the rest of the series and liked the subsequent books much better so I thought I\'d give City of Bones another shot. Unfortunately, it was worse for me the second time around. I just can\'t get past how immature Clary is. I wish the author had made her character a year or two older.

WOW! I had "read" this book years ago and didn't like it but "listening" to it was a completely different experience! I was more focused on what was happening to the story (rather than how it was written) and this story has so much going on. Jace is incredible, I can't wait to see him on the big-screen. The story is incredibly unique and there's such a huge array of characters - it's an amazing world. I can't wait to see the movie! The narrator could have done a better job, though, in my opinion. In describing scenes and situations it was great. But when it came to dialogue I didn't agree with how the animated voice made some of the characters appear. For example, there were many times when Clary's words sounded stuck-up, like she was a pissed off, spoiled rich girl - had I read the dialogue myself I could have made Clary's responses more meek, soft-toned. That's my only gripe with this audiobook.

It was not as good the other books in this category. And then it really hit rock bottom when I got to the ending. It put me off reading the second book.
