I rent audio books to listen to when I travel. On my trip, I listened to 3 out of 7 CDs of this book. I swear, I couldn't stay in my car long enough to listen to the rest of this book. I think I'll be renting audio books now to go back and forth to work. The Alex Cross series is AWESOME !!! I can't wait to get Double Cross !!!!

Perhaps I've just read too many James Patterson books. Don't get me wrong, I usually adore the Alex Cross series, but this book seemed very flat to me. While I was glad to hear the same narrator I've grown to love hearing while listening to Alex Cross novels, this particular entry in the series was slow, uneventful, and frankly, not terribly exciting. While it's a must-read for die-hard Alex Cross fans, I wouldn't recommend it to someone new to the Cross adventures.

I didn't care for this book at all. There was just too much of Nana Mamma..Nana? I like a good mystery/thriller but this just didn't cut it, it was just to cute for me. I am glad there were only 7 CDs other wise I couldn't have finished it.

Ok, I'm really getting tired of all the "family" stuff with Alex Cross. When I want a mystery/thriller, I want the plot line to get moving and keep moving. By the time the book ended, there had been so much interaction with Nana Momma, Jannie, Damon & Allie, that I didn't much care who murdered Maria long ago. The villain is indeed a monster, and the double narration works well. However, Alex is having too many conversations with himself to keep him a viable "good guy" any longer. I was disappointed.

Excellent, I love following Alex Cross and this was suspenseful. Patterson always has some crazy characters but this is the worse by far

I good book, and seems to get back to basics in terms of the Alex Cross series. The last few were relatively weak compared to the earlier ones. My biggest concern in the poor way of explaining how Maria's murder happened. In earlier books, it has already been attributed to a drive-by shooting, but this is not really dealt with here. Otherwise an excellent book -- the reader does a wonderful job of portraying The Butcher.
