The readers monotone voice is truly boring and the sound of the smoke detector constantly chirping due to low battery level is annoying!! The book seems like it's a constant cliche anfter cliche.

Really really good book , definitely worth listing to it!

I downloaded this in error as I thought it may be a scientific study or discussion on what constitutes consciousness. It is actually a self help book on the power of conscious action and will. However, not to be deterred, I listened to a couple of hours anyway. I found much of the authors manner distinctly hard to swallow. statements such as "If you have not achieved this, you have wasted your life" are, at the very least, provocative. I might counter that this only fits if your personal drivers are very well aligned with the author's. Personally, I'm not sure mine are. Digesting the poem 'If' by Rudyard Kipling could be a faster way to obtain the life lessons offered in this text. However, I cannot give this 1 star as a review, there is unquestionably some wisdom and some good intent in the authors attempts to convey how a man (not a women 'of course') should conduct himself. The narrator too was a bit dry, not that I can particularly blame her. In her position I'd have been hard pushed not to add some suggestive 'huffs' at some of the advices given.

Great info shared by the writer and will do the exercises. Being a women I found the use of him, he of putting for parts of the book and the referral to god gives the book religious overtones. Otherwise great audiobook.

Interesting with some salient points, aimed at business people in the main but I would recommend it immensely to anyone who wishes to benefit themselves. However,it was narrated in a somewhat sombre tone with little expression.

One the best self-help guides that I've ever experienced; very practical and full of good tips & exercises. Anyone that is looking to improve their mental skills should def give this a listen. Even more amazing to me is that it was originally written in 1877.

A bit sexist but valuable in content , if one can dig through the outdated misogynistic /bigoted sentences and just pick up the advices and exercises

Profile Avatar

this book can be summed up to pretty much one line, which is this: Focus on what you are doing for the moment to get the best results! If that is relationships, focus on the person you are with with full attention. If it is your business, then focus on that. If it is sleep, then focus on that. If it's ideas for everything in life, then find a quiet place and focus on that! Whatever you are doing in life at any given time, focus on that one thing to find success!

I enjoyed this book quite a lot and will re-read it often as the information is useful and pertinent in everyday dealings with life. The narrator is pleasant, however, there are many times when I wished for some emotion or slight break between sentences or paragraphs for my brain to have a second to digest important materials or recognize a shift in topic.

The title is deceiving. The message is that if you laugh, sing, dance, drink strong drink, eat stimulating food, and thereby develop your emotions, you will lack the power of concentration. And if you can concentrate it will only sporadically. The narrative is monotone and slow with no emotion or heart. Save yourself the trouble, do not read this book!
