Summary
Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen's classic comic romance, in which the five Bennett sisters try to find that most elusive creature: a single man in possession of a large fortune. Sparks fly when sweet, pretty Jane meets their new neighbor, Mr. Bingley, but her sister Elizabeth is most offended by his haughty friend, Mr. Darcy. This is Austen at the height of her powers: the ironic narration, hilariously drawn supporting characters, and romantic suspense make this her most enduringly popular novel. Librivox recordings can be annoying when they announce it every chapter, but this narrator has a lightness in her tone and the story is very enjoyable to listen to.

An amazing classic-LOVE this story. I don't think I would have even enjoyed it as much had I read it on my own-the narrator was amazing!

The narrator for this was absolutely amazing. I’ve purposely looked for other books shes narrated and was not disappointed!

I agree that Elizabeth Klett is an excellent reader. My only issue with the narration is that she changes from American English for third-person narration to British English for spoken character parts. It works, because her British English is very good, and her character differentiations through voicing are first rate. Apart from a few mispronunciations, it's all very successful. There's really nothing to add about the novel. It continues to be read because it's such an enjoyable work and Jane Austen's treatment of shades of gray make the dichotomy of the novel's title very ironic. Her first title--First Impressions--was much better.

good book great narrator

Love the book. She did a great job at narrating, however, it was odd that at the beginning/end of every chapter more info was said than just what chapter was next.

Profile Avatar

Elizabeth use a wonderful variety of expression and tones to bring life to the characters while adding the right amount of emotion to make it sound interesting.

The chapter titles get a bit annoying, but the narrator is great. I think some of the affectations are a bit overdone, but it helps distinguish characters during long bits of dialogue.

This novel is simply world-renowned, it has exploded the expectations and fuelled inspirations for all modern romances. I have very much enjoyed this novel, how brilliant it was to be able to once again deeply immerse myself in this brutal society of romance, or perhaps lack of it would be more fitting. The narration perfectly executed the authorship, and extended the almost ‘homey’ feeling that erupts from reading an absolute classic. I recommend this novel to everyone with all my heart, to read or to listen, it’s a joy!

Wonderful narrator....not too fast...not too slow. I love to hear her!. Still the best Jane Austin story.

Very pleasant sounding narrator. Wonderful, suspenseful love story. Very interesting reflections on social class and human nature.

Profile Avatar

Book is excellent. Narrator is also great: however, around the 35th chapter the recording is scratchy, similar to an old vinyl record. Also, announcing all of the book information (title, author, narrator, etc.) is redundant and unnecessary.

The narrator was great, although at times a little too fast.

The book is entertaining and gives a real good insight in the lifestyle of the people in the early 19th century England. I liked especially the style in which the characters were conversing, so classy and stylish. As of the narration, it is perfect! Elizabeth Klett is a professional, it is an absolute delight to listen to her. An easily understandable accent even for those who are not native english speakers.

Pride and Prejudice is an essential english novel - it is a pity that the narrator does not have a pure english accent.

I have enjoyed this book so much. I know I had to read it in High School. Maybe, because it was mandatory, or maybe because I couldn't read to myself with the enthusiasm and expressions of the reader,Elizabeth, Klett, I didn't appreciate this classic at all. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to listen on Audio Books. Thank you.

Masterful storytelling and superb narration. The story presents enough intrigue early on to keep you holding out for answers. Perfect balance of characters, storylines and subtly to make paying attention worthwhile. Even though some sections unfold slowly, Austen wastes little to no dialogue or description on what doesn’t add context.

Profile Avatar

An excellent time document of 19th century British aristocrat life. It is a potty therefore, that the narrator speaks at a very quick American pace. Slowing the pace down does help a little, but not upto the original feel of the context of the book. This only goes for the narrator parts. Dialogues are done splendidly.

Profile Avatar
Anonymous

I started reading this book and was hooked but sometimes life is too busy just sit down, just me and a book, so I decided to try the audiobook. I read to relax but this narrator is so quick that I felt anxious. Clearly intellectual but slow down please. I need a breath even if this narrator doesn’t.

Profile Avatar

I appreciate how the narrator brought the characters to life in the dialogues. Using American English for the narrative and British English for the dialogue was an unexpected choice that grew on me as the novel progressed. I liked the narrator's style so much that I will now go look for more recordings by her. Oh, the novel is good too.

A true classic read beautifully by Elizabeth Klett. It sends you back to a bygone age when things were so gentile and the females so exquisitely manipulative. Great read.

I love the book, I have been reading it since i was 14... many years ago.. I would have preferred an English voice and the chapter and other announcements between chapters were very irritating. It stopped the narrative and reduced the pleasure of listening. Who reads a book and doesn't simply go from chapter to chapter?

Profile Avatar

The narrator is excellent and this book is a classic for a reason. Yes, the narration tends to seem a bit rushed but the book is a long one. Her characterization of the haughty mother, Mrs. Bennet is top notch. Elizabeth Klett's reading of Jane Eyre is one of her best and I highly recommend that book next if you enjoy this genre). I appreciate the free books on this site, they fill in nicely when waiting for next month's credit.

Profile Avatar
Blake Aasgaard

I'd not personally encountered any work by Jane Austen previously, and thought the initial, though short, chapters to be somewhat tedious. I soon realized however, that the characters had just been created to actuality, within my awareness, to an exquisite detail, and in a manner which allowed me to make gentle acquaintance with them, instead of the characters' persona being, described. For the remainder, I was quite captivated, throughout, and upon completion of the work, felt both pangs of loss and satiety.

Profile Avatar
