Unabridged Audiobook
By far the best of the free titles I have listened to . The narrator was wonderful clear and jovial
Moira Fogarty's pitch perfect rendition of Susanna Moody's narrative - Roughing it in the Bush, was delightful to listen to. I really felt as if I were back in the 1800s with this exceptional lady. We followed her from England where she had been accustomed to a genteel life to follow her new husband to the wilds of Canada. Their lives were a stark contrast to home, but Susanna Moody showed she was made of stern stuff and endured many hardships and cruel deprivations. She was a highly educated and intelligent woman. Her faith and love for her husband never faltered and saw her through famine, hunger, plagues, bitter cold and childbirth. She was a remarkable person and writing this narrative has become as lasting legacy and tribute to her courage and fortitude. Her writing is amazing, beautiful and awe-inspiring. Her poetry is stunning and I am blown away by listening to this wonderful story. Congratulations to Moira for her most excellent reading which I'm sure was a labour of love.
A very interesting book about life in the infancy of Canada. Very good character sketches of the inhabitants of the “Bush”. The narrator was very good as well.
Very unnecessarily grim…too much empasis on the trials & not enough on the joys…surely there were some!
it was an enlightening read into early Canada, there was a lot that went down although I found it a bit long
beautifully written and wonderfully narrated. yes, its a long book but Ms Moody is so diligent in her detailed recounting of her experience as a frintier homesteader it goes by quickly. love the narration! Her clever voicing of the Irish, Scot and English accents is thoroughly delightful.
I really enjoyed this book.
Great story with twists and turns a wonderful read!
