Summary
Seventeen-year-old Twylla lives in the castle. But although she's engaged to the prince, Twylla isn't exactly a member of the court. She's the executioner.

As the Goddess embodied, Twylla instantly kills anyone she touches. Each month, she's taken to the prison and forced to lay her hands on those accused of treason. No one will ever love a girl with murder in her veins. Even the prince, whose royal blood supposedly makes him immune to Twylla's fatal touch, avoids her company. But then a new guard arrives, a boy whose easy smile belies his deadly swordsmanship. And unlike the others, he's able to look past Twylla's executioner robes and see the girl, not the Goddess. Yet Twylla's been promised to the prince, and knows what happens to people who cross the queen. However, a treasonous secret is the least of Twylla's problems. The queen has a plan to destroy her enemies, a plan that requires a stomach-churning, unthinkable sacrifice. Will Twylla do what it takes to protect her kingdom? Or will she abandon her duty in favor of a doomed love?

I usually only listen to audiobooks in the car while commuting to and from work but after the first couple hours I didn't want to stop listening. I continued listening at home and flew through it in just five days. The narrator has a gorgeous accent and really brought the main character Twylla and the Kingdom of Lormere to life. She also did an excellent job differing between all the characters without making obvious and over the top voice changes. Book two is a must buy for me. I can't wait to get started!

I loved this book. I read it as if she were a person, a real person who can't see what you can as a reader. only in hindsight can she sees her mistakes just like anyone else. love love love

Amazing story. It took me a few chapters to really get into it, but after that I couldn't put it down can't wait to read the next one. Love the cliff hanger...

Shallow, "all about me" type of book with no character growth at all. Would give it 0 stars if I could. Forced myself to finish it.

If you can get this book for free- try it out. If you have to pay 14.95 like I did... I wouldn't recommend. The characters are just a little too rushed for me and the plot has some, ehem, taboo elements that I was not prepared for- nothing to scar you for life but this book definitely has adult themes. I also got annoyed by the main leads and their inability to think ahead... All I could think the entire time was "Well that was a stupid decision!" The character though who was completely believable and I applaud is the Queen, the main villain in the story. She is FREAKY and written in such a way that I would never want to meet her in real life, so I give a thumbs up for her character. Overall this book is okay- but it took me two weeks to actually get through it because the climax of the story was completely obvious from the beginning, so it was boring to listen to. But I agree with everyone else about the narrator- she's fantastic.

Not what I would normally have chosen but since it was a free offering I figured that I would at the least give it a few minutes. Couldn't turn it off. Excellent story with deep characters and I would highly recommend giving it a try

well, after getting this book by accident. I decided to listen to the complete story. it was very shallow on substance and was far.from what I would consider a YA story as was advertised. I wouldn't recommend this book.

The book started off very slow. I was actually board at first. Towards the end it picked up. The narration was good.

The narration for this book was great! I think that is why I kept listening. I thought the book was just ok. The story line, protagonist etc were nothing new. But the characters were convincing and interesting and kept the story moving along.

Was good a little slow at times but good. The best part of the book is the end. But I have been on a kick that I don't like any heroines in books lately that is just my personal stuff.

I listened to this book to see if I thought it would appeal to a certain age student. I think it might be a little mature for the audience I was auditioning for, but thought it was a great book. It has intrigue, romance, suspense.....When I finished, I wrote to Audiobooks to see if the sequel was out yet....have to wait a bit. Amy Shiels, the narrator, was excellent!

Excellent book, captivating, highly recommend! I normally read mystery books like James Patterson and this book was right up there next to the thrillers but in a love store format.

Oh my gosh!!! I could not put this down, or stop listening. This is not the type of story that I would typically pick, but I am so glad that I did!!! I am in love with it and the characters. When I feel emotions like this book has made me feel I know it's a good one. The type of book that made me gasp while listening. This book has quickly become one of my favorites!!! The narrator did an amazing job distinguishing her voice between characters and with that accent I could listen to her talk all day ????

Agh! What a wonderful book! The story had me entrapped from beginning to end! I truly cannot wait for the next one. The story had me guessing the whole time, and questioning what I wanted for the main character throughout the entire book. Well written, enthralling story.
