Summary
The riveting novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Liar.

“She stood in the deep, dark woods, breath shallow and cold prickling over her skin despite the hot, heavy air. She took a step back, then two, as the urge to run fell over her.”

Naomi Bowes lost her innocence the night she followed her father into the woods. In freeing the girl trapped in the root cellar, Naomi revealed the horrible extent of her father’s crimes and made him infamous. No matter how close she gets to happiness, she can’t outrun the sins of Thomas David Bowes.

Now a successful photographer living under the name Naomi Carson, she has found a place that calls to her, a rambling old house in need of repair, thousands of miles away from everything she’s ever known. Naomi wants to embrace the solitude, but the kindly residents of Sunrise Cove keep forcing her to open up—especially the determined Xander Keaton.

Naomi can feel her defenses failing, and knows that the connection her new life offers is something she’s always secretly craved. But the sins of her father can become an obsession, and, as she’s learned time and again, her past is never more than a nightmare away.

I just stumbled onto this author coming from Sandra Brown novels and this book was absolutely incredible. It was like watching a movie in my imagination. Amazing writing and a great story!

Eh.....I usually really enjoy Nora Roberts. However, The Obsession was JUST ok. Throughout the book, I found myself getting bored and thinking about other things. Like other reviews mentioned, there was a bunch of unnecessary overly descriptive chapters. If you’re new to NR - start with Shelter in Place. A much better read.

The two main characters are perfect, absolutely perfect...,that's the problem. They aren't believable. Additionally, Nora Roberts prattles on too long about mundane things like renovations to a house. It doesn't help to create the imagery and impedes the flow of the story. I would not recommend this.

It was an interesting book. I enjoyed it. The talk about updates to the house and decorating didn’t bother me as much as others have mentioned because I’m interested in that kind of thing. However, it does take away from the suspense. It also humanizes the characters and supports their interactions and growing bond development. Very good author.

Disappointed. Clearly this was not the first book that Nora Roberts wrote. I have listened and read many of her books. And I have liked them. If this was the first book I have read of hers I would Not picked up another. I seems like she was an amateur, trying hard to grasp the reader attention that she forgot that even though the main character is absolutely beautiful, long legged, blonde, has a great job, makes sssoooo much money and picks a ten bedroom house, a man that is roughed and photogenic, that she, Nora Roberts, forgot to RELATE to the audience. How about a flaw. At the end of the book the reveal, really does matter at all if she was short, or shy , or if She had a pimple. Something to keep the reader interested...you know were they can RELATE. It Was VERY HARD for me to listen to to all of it. The Narrator was hard to listen to too. Her voice would change between the male and female characters. But if it was to males talking, They sounded the same. It might have been the authors fault by not putting the characters name but also the Narrators to. Another thing was quite a few flaws in the store. I have counted 7 and probably more, but at that point I stopped counting. And at the end I have already new who the stocker was at yhe begining, because there was only one person that it could be. The store was not cleaver, most of the story was about remodeling the house. It was like Nora Roberts was remodeling her own house and why not write about what color she should paint her office room. ..I would have given her zero. I very much doubt that I will ever pick another of her books. This left a very bad taste in my mouth.

This book starts with a thrilling beginning. I found myself listening outside of my normal times just to hear what happened next. And then it turned into a cliche romance murder mystery. The difference in quality from the protagonists childhood to adulthood was shocking and hugely disappointing.

when I first listened to this I was really thinking of returning it if there was a return policy but as the book went on I began to enjoy it. I would have given it five stars but because of an issue I gave it 4 but I will not go into that. had a good plot and the narrator did an excellent job.

Very captivating and easy to follow story. Maybe bit odd to have so much decorating though it is part of it too. The reader was otherwise pretty good but a bit calmer pace and soften voice could work better.

I felt the narrator sounded like a chipmunk and read just as quickly as one. It was not enjoyable to listen to the story at the time, however I liked Noah Roberts words enough to push through the narration to get to heart of the story and listen through the whole thing! Great story!!!

I really enjoyed this book. The beginning definitely grabs you. I see several reviewers mentioned the middle was slow. I can see that point but I personally appreciated it. I loved getting to know the main character and see her relationships develop. I found all the details interesting and made me feel vested in her story. The end I thought was predictable and wrapped up a little too quickly but overall I liked it a lot. I thought the narrator did a great job.

Great read, loved it all the way thru even tho i was long!! Loved the romance in amongst the suspense. Will be reading another one of her novels.

I found the book to quit boring. It started off good enough, but became complacent and overly descriptive. The narration was not good at all. The pauses for Dramatic effect were horrible!! In my opinion it was too long and easy to figure out who the villain was. I bought the book because of the rave reviews, but if you are looking for a great book with great narration; like "Girl on a Train", don't waste your money or time.

Liked the book and the author. It dragged a little in the middle but still enjoyed listening . The story kept you involved

The only reason I am giving the book a 4 instead of 5 stars is because I thought the middle of the book dragged just a little bit. I understand that the story needed to be set up, but I thought a lot of the house details could have been spared (just in my opinion). The narrator was great, I just thought the characters deserved more expression considering their dialogue was so well written. Overall, this is a great book and I would highly recommend it!

I'm very good and interesting book suspenseful hit me right on my seat I would have never guessed who the killer was at the end but then you got to figure it out towards the end before they do I would recommend this book to anybody Nora Roberts has now become one of my best I will be reading more of her books
