NOW A MAJOR TELEVISION EVENT FROM NBC, STARRING RUSSELL HORNSBY, ARIELLE KEBBEL, AND MICHAEL IMPERIOLI.

“Deaver’s labyrinthine plots are astonishing”(The New York Times Book Review) in this bestselling thriller featuring a hitman who is out to kill a young girl in Harlem and in order to save her, Lincoln Rhyme has to solve a cold case that’s over 150 years old.

Unlocking a cold case with explosive implications for the future of civil rights, forensics expert Lincoln Rhyme and his protégé, Amelia Sachs, must outguess a killer who has targeted a high school girl from Harlem who is digging into the past of one of her ancestors, a former slave. What buried secrets from 140 years ago could have an assassin out for innocent blood? And what chilling message is hidden in his calling card, the hanged man of the tarot deck? Rhyme must anticipate the next strike or become history—in the New York Times bestseller that proves “there is no thriller writer today like Jeffery Deaver” (San Jose Mercury News).

This is a book I've read a couple of times. It's an onion book, like many of Jeffery Deaver books--layers upon layers. I like it and it has potential for good things in the characters' futures.

Love some of Deaver's stuff - kept us interested - but characters are not as engaging as some of his other LR novels.

This is "classic" Lincoln Rhyme mystery/thriller. I really enjoy the narrator

I am a huge Jeff Deaver fan and have read most of the Rhyme series. I did not care for the readers interpretation of characters by his inflection and tones. I often find though that with abridged books they use different readers that often aren't as good as the unabridged interpretations. The topic plot was not one of the best either. I'll wait for the next one.

I am getting addicted to Lincoln Rhyme and company. Jeffery Deaver does keep one guessing. However, after you have read a number of his books you can see some of the turnarounds coming. But-no matter- it is still riveting. I liked this book and learned oh-so-much about a variety of topics: Harlem history, eubonics, NYC history, graffiti artists...wow..Deaver must research like crazy. I recommend this one and have asked my book group to give it a try.

This book did not seem to be as action-packed or riveting as previous novels however; fans of Lincoln Rhyme and the lovely Amelia Sachs will no doubt still find it an enjoyable read! It has a good dose of Lincoln intraspection and the chemistry between the two protagonists is an endearing as ever. Recommended for fans.

This is vintage Lincoln Rhyme. The "bad guy" is a complex killer and this is characteristic of Deaver at his best. This book is miles-hours of enjoyment and it is hard to stop listening. I am a big fan or Deaver and have listened to or read all of his books. I like the combination of forensic science, psychology and adventure that he combines. There is always some learning too. This time it was about the early civil rights movement. A great listen!!

This book keeps you guessing to the very end. It made my 50+ mile comute seem too short.
