To tell the truth, after finishing The Dome and The Cell I had just about written off King. This, however, is amazing. The writing is seductive and you feel like you are sweating in the hot Florida sand. You can see elements of his struggle with Kings own devastating injuries through Edgar's eyes. It is intricate and powerful. You feel Edgar's struggle to create and somehow you understand how this ties in to an authors struggle to write. This is not a classic King with a boatload of characters. It is about a few core characters and it is written mostly in narrative from one characters pov. Really great stuff.

I was engrossed in this book from the beginning! As usual Stephen King's descriptions are richly sensual and there is an appealing quality to each of the main characters that I have sometimes found lacking in Mr. King's other works. I find listening to his work allows me to appreciate his sometime unappreciated literary depth while at the same time he manages to stay current. I like the way the mystery unfolds in a leisurely pace - much like what I imagine life was like on Duma Key.

After listening to this book, I was reminded how much I love Stephen King. The characters are complex, sympathetic and well developed. The book is long, but I was really disappointed when it ended. One of the reasons that I generally like King is that the stories start out completely reasonably and slowly progress into a horror story. Some of the time the story gets so crazy and monster filled by the end, its hard to really buy into the story. Not so with this one. The narrator did a great job, too. Don't miss it!

This is not one of his better books. The suspense is there at the end, but it took a long time to get there. Not up to his usual brilliance.

Phew --- this one was long winded. By the time I got to Disc 6, I felt it had to pick up. I was expecting it to really build and it never really did. The basis of the story had so much potential, and I think perhaps I expected more from this one. I honestly did not even realize the book had ended and had gone back to Track 1. I tried to enjoy this one - but it just rambled on and on. I see there are a lot of good reviews, so I must have missed something here?

I just finished "Duma Key" and I think that this book has to be one of my favorite SK stories to date...Not knowing anything about this book prior to receiving it, it was a pleasant surprise! Like others who have read this book I was a bit impatient at the beginning and kept waiting for this story to unfold....but slowly I was falling in love with the characters. Once the real meat of this story began I could not stop...It had to be one of the most eerie tales to date from Mr King, The visuals that he used made me feel as if I was right there on Duma Key and for many moments, boy was I afraid! The clues in this story kept you guessing till the end...and with an explosion of descriptive gore, I was at the edge of my seat when the essence of pure evil battled it out with Edgar Freemantle. I absolutely loved this book and did not want it to end....

This was another excellent King book! Lot's of emotional occurences, then some way out there freaky occurences (as usual in a King book heh). This one is definitely worth the rental!

This is a great book! It keeps a very good pace through out. The Characters are interesting and the narrator does a very good job. Pick this one up.

I loved this book from the very beginning. Definitely read/listen to it. I ended up loving, literally, at least three of the characters. I missed it after I had to return it!

An excellent Stephen King story in the classical sense; Interesting character development, a quirky story line and just enough tension to keep you guessing. I thoroughly enjoyed the narrator.
