\"Everyone needs a Jamie in their Life.\" Those were the words spoken to me in 2000, as this phonebook sized story was plopped on my desk. I had never dreamed that I could be locked into a story so thoroughly. Always a reader of a quick story, I stayed awake for 3 days till I finally hit the end of this one, only to find it was the first phonebook of four, now we\'re at book 8. I am just glad I have not had to wait the whole 20 years, 11 years was plenty. Historical fiction is the most interesting way to learn a little history. Never a history buff, Claire and Jamie\'s exploits made me look into some of the tragic real life events, finding the books renderings pretty accurate, except for Claire and Jamie\'s presence. Shake off the impossibilities and let your imagination travel back in time placing you with your very own Jamie

This is a wonderful story. I highly recommend the unabridged version. The abridged one leaves out too much of the story. I was surprised that I have missed such a good and well done story for so many years. If you like a story that has depth and flows in a way that appeals to the heart. This one is a jewel. And I'm please that there are 7 more in the series. A great way to spend time while I do my hobbies. Happy listening.

I first heard about this book from my sister, who had heard about it from her husbands cousin way up in northern Canada. I was very skeptical when she told me this was the best book she had ever read. She explained a little bit about the book to me, and I thought to myself.... no way am I going to be able to get through this book. It just didn't seem like a book I'd read. Boy was I wrong. Its full of adventure, romance, sadness, everything you would ever want out of a book. Now I'm on my 4th time reading the series while I wait for book 8 to come out.

Fantastic story, both interesting from a historical perspective and great character development. I really felt I got to know the characters, and "miss" them now. Very realistic, and interesting relationship dynamics. A bit too much into the bedroom details now and then, these parts got fast forwarded without missing too much. Narrator was fantastic, very good accents, and many different voices for all the characters. Both my husband and I enjoyed picked this as our favorite audio book series so far.

This series is wonderful. I have read 7 books of the series and plan to continue as they are released. However, my advice is to request the unabridged version. The abridged version removes too much of the meat and details. The unabridged version is quite lengthy, but I strongly recommed, especially if you plan to continue the series. This book, being the first in a lengthly series, sets the stage for situations and characters to come later in the series.

it was a very delicate way of telling someones tribulation and triumph in rebellion the narrator could do a little better she start a little weak but then it got better I love this book

I love, love, love historical fiction and this took it to a whole new level. Started out a bit slow, but when Claire "landed" in Scotland, I was hooked. With the accents and pronunciations of places/names, I'm SO glad I listened to this book! The narrator did an excellent job. Turned out to be a bit more graphic and gory than I expected, but well worth it!

I'm a huge fan of historical romance and love the few and far between stories about people from today who end up somewhere back in time. That is what drew me to this book and kept me there. What I found somewhat laughable was that the heroine seemed to adapt so easily to life in the 18th century. Really, ladies, I think it would be a bit more trying for us that it was for dear Claire. However, I wanted romance and got it, and I really enjoyed the narration. So much, in fact, that I ordered the continuation of the series (Dragonfly in Amber) as I felt like I'd lost part of the family when the book was over.

I love a book that surprises me but this one surprised me only with its cumbersome length. The peril, rescue, remorse cycle repeated over and over, covering no new ground most of the time. It wallowed in itself. It would have been better at half the length.
