This book reveals a side of Teddy Roosevelt that I was unaware of. Very disturbing to hear he was a fierce racist, that he used his own insecurities to promote war, and terrible brutalities on other nations to pursue his own agenda. His cold treatment of his daughter Alice by his first wife, warps her psyche and the choices she makes. Had people knew of his true nature, his secret dealings during his presidency, and the outward facade he created for public consumption, I doubt his face would be on Mt. Rushmore. A must read in my opinion.

An interesting book, but somewhat terrifying from the standpoint that it reportedly tells the reader all the inner-thoughts of Teddy Roosevelt and many of his cabinet members. I have always held Teddy as a hero, but it appears from this biography that he was a Machiavellian bad guy - only interested in what can promote him and his agenda.
