Summary
2019 was the last great year for the world economy.

For generations, everything has been getting faster, better, and cheaper. Finally, we reached the point that almost anything you could ever want could be sent to your home within days - even hours - of when you decided you wanted it.

America made that happen, but now America has lost interest in keeping it going.

Globe-spanning supply chains are only possible with the protection of the U.S. Navy. The American dollar underpins internationalized energy and financial markets. Complex, innovative industries were created to satisfy American consumers. American security policy forced warring nations to lay down their arms. Billions of people have been fed and educated as the American-led trade system spread across the globe.

All of this was artificial. All this was temporary. All this is ending.

In The End of the World is Just the Beginning, author and geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan maps out the next world: a world where countries or regions will have no choice but to make their own goods, grow their own food, secure their own energy, fight their own battles, and do it all with populations that are both shrinking and aging.

The list of countries that make it all work is smaller than you think. Which means everything about our interconnected world - from how we manufacture products, to how we grow food, to how we keep the lights on, to how we shuttle stuff about, to how we pay for it all - is about to change.

A world ending. A world beginning. Zeihan brings readers along for an illuminating (and a bit terrifying) ride packed with foresight, wit, and his trademark irreverence.

Peter does a great job explaining how demographics and geography are shaping the end of the US led global peace and prosperity. His predictions are scary, but he's been right way too many times to ignore. This book can stand by its own with easily understandable reviews of the main points of his previous three books, and a detailed overview of how the the changing world order will challenge us all. I really enjoyed Peter's narration of the book.

Peter Zeihan's book, "The End of the World is Just the Beginning" is a brilliant observation of world affairs and a truly outstanding explanation of them. Having the author narrate the book was just as important as the content. Peter has an incredible way of adding enough emotion and feeling and humor to make what might otherwise be described as dry and boring become fun to listen to. His pronunciation and enunciation made complex sentences and ideas easy to hear as well as fascinating to comprehend. If this audiobook was an opera, I would shout...BRAVO. Jeffrey J. “It’s difficult to make predictions, especially about the future”. Mark Twain. The book is extremely interesting, informative and based on a very broad knowledge base. However, it seems to me the author went a bit too far with his prediction of what is going to happen to a super complex system upon a very large number of interruptions. What also caught my eye is that much of the book leads to the same conclusion, no matter which angle things are inspected from, which can be summarized: “USA good. China bad.” Or even: “USA good. Not USA bad.” When all things lead to the same conclusion it makes me suspect that this is not a mere scientific endeavor, but also an ideologically driven one as well. I am not saying this is what it is, just that it smells like it. Last, I heard Zeihan speak over-confidently about vax side effects being fake Russian and Chinese propaganda. As I know first and second hand of such cases and heard world-class scientists in relevant fields discuss them, it makes me wander about some other things he is super confident about.
