Summary
David Copperfield is the quintessential novel by England's most beloved novelist. Based in part on Dickens's own life, it is the story of a young man's journey from an unhappy and impoverished childhood to the discovery of his vocation as a successful novelist. Among its gloriously vivid cast of characters, he encounters his tyrannical stepfather, Mr. Murdstone; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble yet treacherous Uriah Heep; the frivolous, enchanting Dora; and one of literature's great comic creations, the magnificently impecunious Mr. Micawber-a character resembling Dickens's own father.

In David Copperfield-the novel he described as his 'favorite child'-Dickens drew revealingly on his own experiences to create one of his most exuberant and enduringly popular works, filled with tragedy and comedy in equal measure.

The narrator, Simon Vance, is amazing, able to voice all the different characters so convincingly that we see them in our mind's eye as distinct characters we would know immediately if we heard them speaking several feet away at a cocktail party.

Typical Dickens tale. A joy to listen to. Excellent narration with so many voice characterizations. A book to remember.

Had no idea this book would be so genuinely funny and clever, even amidst all the melodrama. Both the novel and Simon Vance were first rate.

Always wanted to read this and glad I finally have listened to it. Slower then a modern book but well worth the time.

A great story, well written and brilliantly narrated (thank you Simon Vance). Some might find it long winded compared to modern stories but I think the Victorians were rather verbose as evidenced in other books of the era. However, listening time is 34 hours not 10 as stated in the book details but it is well worth the time.

I was so entranced by this book, I laughed out loud, I literally cried real tears more than once - possibly the best book that I've I've ever read. I cannot recommend it more highly. The narrator was brilliant.

This is my first Dickens book and I am so pleased I selected this version--carefully chosen--to be narrated by this exemplary voice, whose versatility extends so far as to impersonate even the opposite sex's vocal tones outstandingly. All in all, when you have a narrator with such a flair for voices as Simon Vance has shown here, it furnishes the story with a fresh experience that keeps the listener's rapt attention; also one that even Dickens would have probably been unflaggingly grateful for had he still been around.

This narrator is just a pleasure to listen to and the perfect way to enjoy this timeless and enthralling piece of writing. I wanted to read a classic since in my schooling I never had to read many and decided to try this one as an adult paused between books. I could not stop listening to it and found its story and characters as relevant today as any contemporary book.

Such a wonderful book; Dickens' most biographical work, and one of my favorites. Simon Vance is a most excellent reader. I was, however, disappointed in some of his characters' voices; many of them sound exactly the same, and Mr Micawber's accent, in particular, is all wrong—much too lower class. Uriah Heep, though is great. On the whole, an exceedingly enjoyable audiobook.
