Summary
The #1 New York Times bestselling memoir from Augusten Burroughs, Running with Scissors, now a Major Motion Picture!

Running with Scissors is the true story of a boy whose mother (a poet with delusions of Anne Sexton) gave him away to be raised by her psychiatrist, a dead-ringer for Santa and a lunatic in the bargain. Suddenly, at age twelve, Augusten Burroughs found himself living in a dilapidated Victorian in perfect squalor. The doctor's bizarre family, a few patients, and a pedophile living in the backyard shed completed the tableau. Here, there were no rules, there was no school. The Christmas tree stayed up until summer, and Valium was eaten like Pez. And when things got dull, there was always the vintage electroshock therapy machine under the stairs....

Running with Scissors is at turns foul and harrowing, compelling and maniacally funny. But above all, it chronicles an ordinary boy's survival under the most extraordinary circumstances.

I liked it until I googled the author and I don't like that I don't know what really happened and what was fabricated for the book

Well written and entertaining considering the serious subject matter. The narration was excellent. One of the few times I would say that listening to this book, with such entertaining narration was actually better than reading it. I have done both. Enjoy!

Running with scissors is one of the most intense books I have read in awhile. It is funny, painful, tragic and a bit disturbing all at the same time. From start to finish I couldn't put the book down. I recommend this book to anyone willing to read something weird and unorthodox. However this book is not for everyone, reader discretion is advice.

This tale of a young boy taken in by his mother's psychiatrist and his bizarre family is funny, sad and uncomfortable all at the same time. But you will not be able to put this story down. I highly recommend this quirky and colorful tale.
