'If C.J. Box isn't already on your list, put him there.'--USA Today

When two sisters set out across a remote stretch of Montana road to visit their friend, little do they know it will be the last time anyone might ever hear from them again. The girls—and their car—simply vanish. Former police investigator Cody Hoyt has just lost his job and has fallen off the wagon after a long stretch of sobriety. Convinced by his son and his former rookie partner, Cassie Dewell, he begins the drive south to the girls' last known location.

As Cody makes his way to the lonely stretch of Montana highway where they went missing, Cassie discovers that Gracie and Danielle Sullivan aren't the first girls who have disappeared in this area. This majestic landscape is the hunting ground for a killer whose viciousness is outmatched only by his intelligence. And he might not be working alone. Time is running out for Gracie and Danielle…Can Cassie overcome her doubts and lack of experience and use her innate skill? Can Cody Hoyt battle his own demons and find this killer before another victim vanishes on the highway?

Good but pretty dark subject matter.

Too much swearing for me.

Very intense! I have never had a book weigh on me such that I had to take breaks due to being overwhelmed. An incredibly enjoyable book and fine narrator.

This is a great book. A lot of suspense and significant plot twists so that just as you figure out what's going to happen you're proven wrong.

So entertaining to read a another C.J. Box novel that takes place in Montana and around Helena (especially since I live only a few blocks from the infamous Jester's Bar). The author is very accurate in the physical descriptions and flavors of the areas of Montana which appear in the book. After "Back of Beyond" many of the same characters reappear in "The Highway". But with the loss of one of the main characters, will this be a stand-alone novel or become part of a series?

I really enjoyed The Highway. It kept me interested the entire time. Never too technical. And I thought the narrator was fantastic. Very captivating.

The story line was captivating, although not what I had expected. Author focused less attention on the investigation of the crimes and more on the depraved serial killer. I would say the ending is disturbing.
