A thrilling tale of betrayal and revenge set against the nineteenth-century American frontier, Michael Punke's The Revenant is the astonishing story of real-life trapper and frontiersman Hugh Glass

The year is 1823, and the trappers of the Rocky Mountain Fur Company live a brutal frontier life. Hugh Glass is among the company’s finest men, an experienced frontiersman and an expert tracker. But when a scouting mission puts him face-to-face with a grizzly bear, he is viciously mauled and not expected to survive. Two company men are dispatched to stay behind and tend to Glass before he dies. When the men abandon him instead, Glass is driven to survive by one desire: revenge. With shocking grit and determination, Glass sets out, crawling at first, across hundreds of miles of uncharted American frontier.

Based on a true story, The Revenant is a remarkable tale of obsession, the human will stretched to its limits, and the lengths that one man will go to for retribution.

A very enthralling story! I travel throughout this area of the country, and the accurate historical perspective of this book will now give new insight to the landscape I pass. The characterization of the various known historical figures really brought the story to life! The narrator did a fabulous job, too. Overall a highly recommended book!

A rich and arduous adventure that kept my focus through the entire read -- word for word. The movie could have adopted more aspects of the book making it better overall, that's Hollywood for you though!

A great story and tale of the rough conditions that men had to endure in that era. The narrator was one of the best that I've heard and I agree with many others that the ending was fairly anticlimactic, but it is based closely on true events so that is not all that surprising. I appreciated the final remarks at the end of the story that went over what was accurate and what parts were fictionalized. Would highly recommend to anyone, but maybe not those with a weak stomach!

Good novel but the ending was anticlimatic. A good introduction to the era of the mountain man and fur trade.

If your idea of revenge after listening to a book for 9 hours is punching a guy in the face and shooting someone in the shoulder then this is your book. If not, don't waste your time. I thought the movie was bad, but the book is worse. The did a very good job of advertising it because they fooled me.

Reminded me of Cormac McCarthy...Jim Harrison and a little David Morrell i.e. "Testament " or "The First Revelle"

Excellent story. A little bit of gore and death but the story kept you captivated and the narrator was awesome buy getting in character for each and every person in the book. Highly recommend this book and should be read before seeing the movie.

Overall I enjoyed the book. The narrator was excellent and the story kept me engaged throughout. My one disappointment was the ending which seemed to be incomplete and was therefore unsatisfactory.

Good book. Narrator is good except for voice volume is to inconsistent. I'm in a loud environment so makes it hard to hear it all.

I've read a few books about the fur-trappers of the West and was always fascinated by the story of Glass. This was an AMAZING read. The Narrator excelled at capturing the essence of each character.

This book is excellent. Obviously the preview for the upcoming film had me excited and eager to listen to this novel. It was amazing. The story is excellent and provides a great escape. The narration is also spectacular. I cannot say enough about how well done it was. The narrator does a spectacular job with all of the characters and helping to add to the content of the book. Highly Recommend!
