Summary
Verbally abused by her mother for years, 18-year-old Ellie Johnson always believed she would never be loved or wanted by anyone. She focused all of her attention on her grades and getting into the University of Texas to start a new life away from her mother. The last thing Ellie expected was to fall in love with Gunner Mathews, a starting linebacker for the University of Texas football team and not to mention, her brother's best friend. Gunner only has two passions in life, football and his grandfather's ranch, until he falls for his best friend's little sister. He will stop at nothing to show Ellie how much he wants her, even if it means he has to move faster than she would like. Gunner knows they are meant to be together forever, but Ellie keeps denying her feelings out of fear of being hurt again. Every time he gets close to winning her love, something pushes her away again. Will Ellie ever be able to let go of the past and let him into her heart and will Gunner be patient enough to wait for her?

I bet I would love this book if I were still a teenager, but as a young adult I could not appreciate the sappy dialogue and such. The author obviously tried to make the male characters seem like "guys" by having them curse, threaten harm, and even punch other guys but to no avail. I also was really annoyed with the overuse of some describers or language used in the book. The term "about dropped me to my knees" was so often used in this book I either rolled my eyes to it or cringed. The characters were just too shallow and lacked any normal conversation between each other. But it had a good enough plot that it kept me going and wanting to know the fate of each couple.

Horrible: didn’t make it past first chapter.... full of language

I enjoyed this book very much except for the extremely foul and vulgar language! There really was no need for it...every other word out of every characters' mouth was a vulgarity, even the old grandfather. I am pretty certain I will not be reading any more books by this author.

Dreadful book. Far too much unnecessary swearing and sex talk. Boring so gave up after 3 chapters.

The narration was good but the book was not. Too many cliched misunderstandings between the characters. The two main female characters seem very sexually aware for supposedly not having any sexual experience. Even if she’s a virgin, it’s hard to believe that an 18-year-old girl has never experienced an orgasm. Or that she knew how to give a hand job. But the biggest problem I had was the language. I spent six years in the Navy and I worked alongside some folks with salty vocabularies. But I had never heard so many gratuitous uses of the word f**k in my entire military career. And it might be believable if there was just one character that talk like that. But all of the main characters used F bombs as an adjective, verb, noun. Anyway you could possibly think of. It’s hard to believe that all 4 main characters talk like that. Between the cliché storyline and the overuse of the F word I do recommend this book.

Juvenile and the narrators did not help the book at all.

Very hard book to listen all the way through due to the narration. Read very monotone with little inflection. Written towards young adult book I think but not really sure it qualifies for it. Not sure I would’ be willing to listen to another book by this author .

I love Kelly Elliott! Her stories have never made me laugh so hard, cry so much or hate when a story comes to an end. The fact she carries her characters into series and even from one series to another makes me want to read every book she has written looking for "Easter Eggs" of familiar names and locations from previous or future stories. Ellie and Gunner's story is one of my favorite from Kelly. I have listened to it overba dozen times and I still enjoy it.
