A Fate of Wrath and Flame

I listened to this audiobook to prepare for the ARC of the next book in this series. k.A.Tucker is an author who has always been on my TBR list, but I just hadn’t gotten around to reading any of her work. After listening to this book I regret that I didn’t start reading years ago. This is my favorite kind of story: fantasy romance. In this case we take a modern American heroine and toss her into a world without the scientific advances of our modern world. Instead this is a world of magic and mystical creatures and she must navigate this alien environment while also assuming the identity of a woman who has just murdered the King and Queen of the land. Only a girl who grew up on the street using her wits to survive would have the skills to do so. The story gradually unfurls and she charms some of those that surround her. The book ends in a huge cliffhanger where the rug is pulled out from under her and those she has begun to trust. These characters are entertaining, the story different than others that I have read, and the action fast paced enough that I never wanted to press pause. Dare I also mention the steamy hot chemistry between the male and female characters? Top it off, I though the narrator was superb. I cannot wait to start book 2!

This was an interesting story - starting out as a bit of an urban fantasy, then shifting suddenly to a high fantasy, with touches of From Blood and Ash, but gender swapped. The pieces of this story are laid out quite interestingly. There’s an overall plot line that is laid out fairly early, but then we get almost a whole separate sub plot that develops with more detail, before the original plot line comes much more fully back into play. The characters are fascinating, and the concept of what happens with Romeria’s character, specifically, is one of the more unique points to the story that I found intriguing. Her relationship with Zander is an enemies to lovers slow burn that works very well, developing in a way that really does make a lot of sense given what has happened with these characters (especially some of the off page stuff that happens before Romeria comes into the picture). We have the political machinations of the two kingdoms, which has it’s own intriguing plot twists, and on top of that, we have the meddling and manipulations of spiteful and warring gods. Overall, it makes an engrossing story with a great cliffhanger ending. The narration is great, works really well with the story, and definitely added to my overall enjoyment of the story.

Wow this audio book was AMAZING!!! I recieved an audio copy of this for my honest review. This is the first fantasy that I've listened to from KA Tucker and I have been hooked listening since it first started! Romeria has had to rely on herself for a long time, but she was dragged into the world of organized crime... until one night she meets someone who literally turns her world upside down. Now she living in what seems to be a different realm, a princess who was engaged to prince Zander (lol key word WAS) until she was accused of murdering his parents the king and queen. Unfortunately she has no memory of doing that... but since she has saved Zander's sister a couple of times, he just locked her away instead of killing her away instead of killing her. It's an exciting journey that KA Tucker takes us on during this book. It's a slow burn romance but oh so good!! I loved the characters, the storyline, the fantasy, everything. The narrator, Elizabeth Klepp, did an amazing job building not only the story but the characters. I was hooked right from the start. Great job!! And now I'll be anxiously waiting on book 2 to release! I recieved an ALC for my honest review.

This book is just a tiny bit below a 4 star for me. I really really enjoyed it, but, it took me a very long time to get into it. That's mostly a me problem, I sometimes have a really hard time getting into fantasy. It's like it takes me time to digest the setting and what's happening and where the story is going to go. But, anyway, that's just me. I really liked this book. I didn't always expect what was coming, I often didn't see where it was going and that's exactly how I like my fantasy. I loved that we were meeting this new world along with Romeria. She gets placed into this unknown world without any background information and we find things out as she does and I really enjoyed that part of it. I'm here for the romance, I'm here for the "how will we save the kingdom?", I'm just here for all of it and I cannot wait for more. I listened to the audiobook of this and really enjoyed the narrator. It also really helped with that initial struggle to get into the story, audiobooks make everything better.

I was nervous when I went into this considering the only other books I've read by this author have been contemporary, I held out hope that this would be a fantasy story I could fall in love with since many others have fallen short for me recently. This was slower to start than I would have liked, but honestly as confusing as the world building is, I feel like this was entirely on purpose because this story was pure magic in every sense of the word. Once I got to the point where I wrapped my head around the world, I couldn't put it down, KAT sucked my in all the way. I'm well invested for the next chapter.
