Summary
The first comprehensive biography of iconic singer-songwriter Chris Cornell.

Total F*cking Godhead is the complete story of the complex and enigmatic artist, Chris Cornell. It's the riveting account of a blue collar, high-school dropout emerging from Seattle, Washington, to become one of the greatest singer-songwriters and voices of his generation. With input from people who knew and worked with him-together with Cornell's own words-the book recounts in great detail the rise of his immortal band Soundgarden as they emerged from the 1980s post-punk underground to dominate popular culture in the '90s alongside other Seattle bands like Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and Nirvana.

Long-time Seattle resident and rock writer Corbin Reiff examines Cornell's dynamic solo career as well as his time in Audioslave. He delves into his hard-fought battle with addiction, as well as the supercharged reunion with the band that made him famous before everything ended tragically.

This is the story of an artist who channeled his own inner turmoil into songs that touched the hearts of millions around the world and turned Chris Cornell into one of music's greatest icons.

Pretty good overview of events, albums, songs, etc - not so in depth which is understandable given the mess for rights, etc. that occurred from his death up until just last week when Chris' estate and the band came to terms (oddly while I was finally getting around to reading this book). I have been a long time fan of Soundgarden, Audioslave, and TOTD so enjoyed getting a little (again, not super in-depth but enough facts and interview snippets to inform plenty) background for the foundations, the stories, the progression, etc of Chris' life and career. As a big fan of his music (best voice in rock - period.), I took the time to follow the musical journey and listen to each album from Chris' career as I got to that part of the book. A fun way to experience the book and the music it speaks about at the same time. Good book, good storytelling, so very sad to lose him so soon, but the loudest of love for his music.

I have been a fan of Chris Cornell since the early 90’s, so this review may be a little bias. I loved him, and I loved this book. It is written by a fan for a fan. This book is about his musical journey, and everything he went through and accomplished. The ups and downs, the good and bad. It’s not really about his personal life, though it is touched on a little. I think Chris was a private person, and his personal life is not someone else’s story to tell. So some people may be disappointed in that. Anyone who is fan of the singer, songwriter, and musician he was will love this book.
