Cut & Run Series: Book Five

Left alone in Baltimore after his unpredictable lover bails, Special Agent Zane Garrett takes his frustration out on everything in his path until he is ordered to Chicago to back up an undercover operative. When he gets there, though, he finds himself face to face with his wayward partner, Special Agent Ty Grady. They have to deal with the uncertainty lingering between them while they work to retrieve their intended mark, a retired hit man and CIA wet-works operative named Julian Cross.

Ty, once a Marine and now an FBI hotshot, has a penchant for being unpredictable, a trait Zane can vouch for. Zane is a man who once lived for his job but has come to realize his heartbreaking past doesn’t have to overshadow his future. They're partners, friends, lovers, and the go-to team for unusual cases. With Cross and his innocuous boyfriend, Cameron Jacobs, in tow, Ty and Zane must navigate the obstacles of a cross-country trek, including TSA pat-downs, blizzards, their uncooperative prisoners, CIA kill teams, a desperate lack of sleep and caffeine, and each other. Ty and Zane are determined to get Julian Cross to DC in one piece, but it’s starting to look like it might be the last thing they do.

You guys have seen me gush over this series time and time again. So don’t be surprised when I do it again. Armed & Dangerous is the 5th book in the Cut & Run series and this time around Abigail Roux writes it solo. But have no fear it’s still Ty and Zane at their finest. Honestly I couldn’t really time that much of a difference in the writing. It’s road trip time for Ty and Zane. They are tasked with the job of bring in a CIA asset, Julian Cross. He’s life is in danger from someone in the CIA and the only person that knows who is using a group of CIA personal as assassins for hire is Cross. But he only knows the voice of that person. So Ty’s family friend and FBI big-wig Burns has tasked Ty to bring Cross into FBI safely but Cross is more than one FBI agent can handle so Zane is pulled in to be Ty’s backup. After the ending of Divide & Conquer, Ty has been away on one of his secret assignments and Zane has no idea where Ty is and if he’s ok. So their relationship is a little strained at the moment. But once the two come face to face as each other’s backup the fireworks start. Ty and Zane kick ass while making the trip with Cross and his lover Cameron. There are plenty of funny moments where Ty drives Zane crazy with his smart-ass comebacks and the two are even more on edge since they can’t have the reunion they both want so much since they’ve sent a few days apart from each other. They are assignment and try to keep their hands to themselves while being professional. And watching Cross and Cameron be lovey-dovey is not helping. By the time the road trip from hell is over Ty and Zane has outed themselves to Cross and Cameron and they could care less. They are so much in love with each other that people are starting to pick up on it even with the two aren’t aware of the vibe they are putting out. How much longer can they keep their relationship a secret at work? It’s not that they are worried about being known as gay but that the FBI doesn’t allow their agents to date. My biggest hope for the couple is that they finally get to live their life out in the open so that they can finally be truly happy. In my review of Fish & Chips I mentioned it took a little while to get into the narration but now that I’m really enjoying the narration I’m a little sad that I’ll have to read the next two books since they are not available on audio. But I’ll get over it because I MUST HAVE more Ty and Zane!
