The sudden and surprising assassination of three American officials in Colombia. Many people in many places, moving off on missions they all mistakenly thought they understood. The future was too fearful for contemplation, and beyond the expected finish lines were things that, once decided, were better left unseen. Tom Clancy's thriller is based on America's war on drugs . . . and the covert - and shocking - U. S. response. "The issues raised are real ones, and a jump ahead of the headlines." The New York Times "Rousing adventure...A crackling good yarn." The Washington Post

There are way too many characters and very hard to follow.

This is a great book. It is a good movie as well!!

This was my first Tom Clancy read and I enjoyed the depth of background and detail around the characters, which is inevitably missing from the film version. The story developed well and kept me interested from start to finish. What did frustrate me though was the speed of the dialogue. I am guessing the recording has been sped up to cram the whole book onto 2 CDs in MP3 format. As a result, I found the tempo annoyingly swift, particularly as it jumped from one setting to another with no pause. Apart from this minor annoyance, I enjoyed the story and look forward to another Clancy book.

What can you say about a Tom Clancy novel. The characters are developed and situations are tense. This story is not any less then you would expect from a man of intrigue and suspense. You will not be disapointed.

This novel is Clancy's best, in my opinion, but it shows one of his major flaws or strengths, depending on your opinion. His set up of a locations or characters, major or minor, is extremly detailed and very long. I happen to like that about his writing, but will admit that sometimes it gets a little over done and boring. If you can get into this story enough to reach discs 6-10, you will not be able to get out of your car. Now I am stuck waiting for discs 11-15. I need my fix of Tom Clancy, now. This book and stories are fantastic. It also reminds us how life in the USA has changed since 9/11/2001!
