Summary:

I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we'd gotten into a swordfight, or been ambushed by Reapers, I'd have been more prepared. But getting arrested mid-sip at the local coffee hangout? I didn't see that one coming. I've been accused of purposely helping the Reapers free Loki from his prison - and the person leading the charge against me is Linus Quinn, Logan's dad. The worst part is that pretty much everyone at Mythos Academy thinks I'm guilty. If I'm going to get out of this mess alive, I'll have to do it myself...

If you can’t tell by the key word in the title, Crimson. This is the most act packed installment of the Mythos Academy. Many Reaper bodies hit the floor as Gwen and the others fight to stay alive when a group of Reapers break into the Library of Antiquities. But we get to the bloody parts we get to see Gwen and Logan on their first date but like all things Gwen, it doesn’t end well. Members of the Protectorate, a group of Mythos leaders, crash it to take Gwen into custody. And what makes is even more awkward….Logan’s dad, Linus is one of the Protectorate. And thanks to Logan’s d**che of a dad the whole student body is out to get Gwen for something she didn’t even do. But hey, it’s not the Protectorate’s problem. Daphne, Carson, Vic and Grandma Frost are all back to stand in Gwen’s corner during her rough times dealing with the Reapers, the Protectorate and the fickle student body at the academy. Even the snarky librarian, Nickamedes is on team Gwen to help clear her name and keep her from going to prison or worse, being put to death for a crime she didn’t comment. While everyone is busy kicking ass and taking names so there’s little romance but Gwen and Logan steal a few sweet moments here and there. And just when you think that their sweet romance might start heating up Estep pulls the rug out from under them. But that’s to be expected in an Urban Fantasy. My only complaint about the series as a whole is best summed up by quoting a fellow Estep fan and blogger… "I just wish we could get a little more of a mature dynamic in the relationship department. It doesn’t have to be dirty or anything, but it feels very innocent for 17. (Maybe this would be less bothersome for folks who are bigger YA fans. I read these because I love Estep… not necessarily the genre.)" – Jen at Red Hot Books Over all Crimson Frost is my favorite in the series and I can see the series only getting better. If we can’t have a sweaty romance then I’m ok with more bloody action.
