Summary
Christopher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched. And he detests the color yellow. This improbable story of Christopher's quest to investigate the suspicious death of a neighborhood dog makes for one of the most captivating, unusual, and widely heralded novels in recent years.

I didn't love it in the way that some others did, yet it was still very compelling. The narrator is engaging, and it really kind of messes with the way your head works and lends a bit of insight as to how it feels to look at the world in a very different way than the people around you. Christopher is an unreliable narrator not because he's dishonest, as he's indeed honest to a fault, but because he really doesn't see or understand events around him the way most readers would. This makes for a very interesting and unusual, though somewhat predictable, narrative. It takes quite a bit of getting used to, but is a solid reading experience.

One of the best books I've read (or listened to) in a very long time. Early on I realized that the narrator protagonist was autistic and I wondered how a high functioning autistic person would relate to the book. I found out by reading reviews of the theatrical production. A few autistic c people commented, saying that they could relate to exactly what was going on. Knowing several Asbergers children and adults, I can tell you that the lack of social skills, which is shown so plainly in the book, is front and center. I found the story compelling and moving. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to read a book that steps outside the box.
