Summary
The first novel in Julia Quinn's worldwide bestselling Bridgerton novels, now a series created by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix. This is the story of Daphne Bridgerton and the Duke: welcome to the ballrooms of Regency London . . .

Can there be any greater challenge to London's Ambitious Mamas than an unmarried duke? Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1813

By all accounts, Simon Basset is on the verge of proposing to his best friend's sister, the lovely - and almost-on-the-shelf - Daphne Bridgerton. But the two of them know the truth - it's all an elaborate plan to keep Simon free from marriage-minded society mothers. And as for Daphne, surely she will attract some worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable . . .

Their ruse works like a charm - at first. But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, it's hard to remember that their courtship is a complete sham. Maybe it's his devilish smile, certainly it's the way his eyes seem to burn every time he looks at her. It wasn't the plan, but it seems she's falling for the duke, for real. And amidst the glittering, gossipy, cut-throat world of London's elite, there is only one certainty: love ignores every rule . . .

I have read the whole series of books and they are very entertaining. I really enjoyed all the storylines following the Bridgerton family as each sibling seeks love in 19th Century London. Carefully navigating social life around Gossip Queen, Lady Whistledown. Each love story has its own issues and are a bit saucy. I definitely recommend them.

the book is the \"cheap\" romantic novel you would expect. the writing isn\'t so bad, but during the erotic scenes, it becomes a little comical, because is so allusive.... It was however pleasant to listen to it.....

I liked the narrator but wasn't amazing. The story was ok too. I did watch the Netflix series first so thought the "books" are always better. I'm afraid not in this case.

okay so I saw some of the reviews before listening to the book, some people were trashing daphne so much I actually thought she was a horrible person, saying she raped the duke…. man you gotta be a 12 year old OR really stupid to think a 20 year old girl from the 19 century who knew next to nothing about sex had the power and/or the conscience to rape that man. She literally didn’t know what semen was, didn’t know men could get hard in their sleep!!!!!! I hate when people hold these types of characters to modern standards.…. and if you did that you’d have to criticize how simon acted and said (more than once) that daphne was his property and was obligated to do whatever he said. So yeah I just felt like going off today, cause people who can’t understand context piss me off.

Unfortunately I did not like the narrator's impersonation of the characters, sometimes even cringey.
