Summary:

Loyal. Beautiful. Professional. Impeccably organized. Potentially lethal. Sarah Stevens is a woman with many distinct qualities. First and foremost a butler par excellence, skilled at running large households smoothly and efficiently, she is also a trained bodyguard and expert marksman - indispensable to her elderly employer, a courtly gentleman whom Sarah has come to respect and love.

Then one night she thwarts a burglary in progress, a courageous act that awards Sarah her requisite "fifteen minutes of fame" with the local press. But the exposure is enough to catch the attention of a tortured soul who, unbeknownst to Sarah, will stop at nothing to have her for himself. Sarah's perfectly ordered life is shattered when tragedy strikes: her beloved employer is brutally murdered. The detective investigating the case assures Sarah that she is not a suspect. Until lightning strikes twice.

There's a second killing - and this time, despite a lack of evidence connecting her to the crime, Sarah cannot escape the shadow of guilt. The only option left for Sarah is to carry on with her life. But she doesn't realize that a deranged stalker is luring her into an elaborate trap...one in which she, once ensnared, might never escape. For Sarah soon finds herself at the mercy of a man who will tend to her every whim, smother her with affection, and crush her in his all-consuming embrace.

***3.5 stars ***I'm actually surprised I liked this as much as I did. I chose this book because it was available on audio and I needed a good audio book. The story sounded pretty good so I thought why not, even though it's not my usual read. When I first started reading, I could tell it was an older book. It seemed dated. But after awhile I got into the story and really enjoyed it. And I loved the naked wrestling, that was great.

This was a very enjoyable listen and consistent with the authors work. expect sex, and while raunchy, word choice is pre-2000s and somewhat clinical. While others have noted the lack of mystery, I found myself engrossed and dying to come home from work and continue listening. There are lots of little logic flaws (eg, why after tragedy hits does the female protag not contact her "close" family for help/support, esp. in lieu of friends?) But for a fun listen with a very refreshing female lead character without a stereotypical treatment, I very much recommend this book and its good narration.

This book was well written and narrated but not much of a mystery. There could have been more twists but instead it concentrated on the romance and sex parts of the plots. I enjoyed it but felt there should be more.

The story was very good. The detailed sex was unnecessary. I am certainly not opposed to sex in a story, but I'm sorry; this was too much. I probably would not select another of her books.

Another good story by Linda Howard. Her characters, as always, are sympathetic and likeable. The plot hooked me immediately. Linda Howard fans won't be disappointed.

I mistakenly thought this was a mystery. I was very disappointed. I'm not a prude but you would think for an abridged version that the sex would have been the first to be abridged since I don't see how it makes a real difference in the story line especially the in-depth description of thier love-making. There were at least 2 long detailed explanation. Just wasn't my type of book, there wasn't really a mystery because they reader knows the killer from the beginning. I guess if romance is the genre you are looking for this book would be fine.

A must listen/rent. Terrific charcaters, well written and narrated perfectly. This was definitely one of Linda Howard's best.

I enjoy Linda Howard's books and this is one of my favorites. Would like to see it in an unabridged version though.

I love Linda Howard...Every book I've ready by her I have enjoyed. I am enchanted by her writing style and can't wait to get the next book. What I enjoy most is that none of her books are the same, its different characters in different circumstances and she knows how to weave a story. I can't wait until the next one...
