Summary:

When war broke out on the planet Harmony, the Oversoul of that colonized world selected the family of Wetchik to carry it back to long-lost Earth. Now the tribe is ready at last to take a ship to the stars. But from the beginning there has been bitter dispute between Wetchik's sons, Nafai and Elemak. On board the starship Bailica, the children of the tribe will become pawns in the struggle for control of reclaimed Earth. Each faction is making secret plans to awaken the children early from the cold-sleep capsules in which they will pass the decades-long journey, hoping to gain years of influence on their minds and win their loyalty. But the Oversoul is truly in control of this journey, and only the son who wears the cloak of the starmaster really understands what this will mean to all their plans for the future.

It is hard to believe that this is the same author who wrote the Ender series (one of the best contemporary sci-fi out there). The 'Homecoming' series is nothing but a thinly veiled sci-fi version of the book of Mormon. The plot is thin, the writing is boring, the characters are two-dimensional and unlikable, and the names of the characters are hard to follow in the audiobook version. Women are reduced during the story line from strong and self-reliant, governing the city of Basilica, to worthless, then regain their value when they marry, submit to the wise council of their husband and have many babies. I remember when OSC wrote for a broad audience, now he obviously only writes for his fans in the LDS church. Too bad, I am all done with the author, will not give it another try. I sent back the other CD (Earthborn) without listening to it.
