Summary
The biggest thriller of the year: A history-making eruption is about to destroy the Big Island of Hawaii. But a secret held for decades by the US military is far more terrifying than any volcano.

“The book is a classic summer beach read...Eruption will revive the art of speed-reading...told with a singular voice that is a compelling amalgam of the two writers.”—USA Today

“Eruption is an epic thriller…fast-paced and deeply considered…a cinematic story rooted in science and infused with plenty of heart, tackling big themes like love and loss.”
–Time

The master of the techno-blockbuster joins forces with the master of the modern thriller to create the most anticipated mega bestseller in years.

Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

“Red-hot storytelling... The action scenes will make readers’ eyes pop as the tension continues to build." –Kirkus, starred review

“Explosive…the summer’s ultimate literary mashup.” —Washington Post

"Takes readers on a thrilling journey." —BBC

"Beachbag-ready." —Boston Globe

“A seismic publishing event…all the elements of a summer blockbuster…it’s a thrill and the pages practically turn themselves.” —Associated Press

“Eruption is this summer’s literary version of a blockbuster action movie.” –Los Angeles Times

"Breakneck and plausible." —Publishers Weekly

What total garbage. Like watching a bad movie that Carlton Heston would have overacted in . Mind boggling how anyone could listen to the entirety of this dribble. Bleach.

Love all of Michael Crichton's books. This had the feel of his one of his books. James Patterson did an excellent job filling it out. The story was exciting, fast-paced, and very informative on a subject I know little about. Scott Brick is one of the best narrators out there. Something about his style gives a story a nice edge.

Probably would be a better movie than a book . Very predictable

Honestly, I love Crichton, but I couldn’t finish the book. Premise not convincing. The main characters were so childish and egotistical. Maybe it’s realistic, but so two dimensional.and, the narrators over amping every sentence and scene, thought, and dialogue just wore me out. I don’t care what happens as long as I am out of this story.

This is an absolutely wonderful story. The research had to have taken years. The gripping plot, charismatic characters, the arcs, everything, it was all so good, I listened nonstop. Scott Brick is one of my favorite narrators, and he brings the story to life. I highly recommend this book.

It was great until it wasn’t. Just like the eruption that was becoming imminent, the story continued to build. It made it easy to see the contributions from Michael Crichton. His attention to detail is magnificent. But when it came time to explode, it was more like a fizzle. I would love to have read a version he could have completed before his passing.

A very disappointing book. One of the reviews. I read said that they could not tell when one author left off and the next one began. That is absolutely not true. The writing styles are completely different. I could not recommend book to anyone.

Not fond of it. I didn’t like depressing parts. Too slow at times. Love the authors. Just not this book.

This will teach me not to buy a book based on the best seller list. The characters were so shallow and the dialogue so stilted and unrealistic that I was literally laughing out loud during many of the "dramatic" parts. The biggest thing I felt was a desire to have the book end.

The book has an absorbing plot and story to follow, with some interesting characters to keep the pace. I've always enjoyed Crichton books. That being said, the narrator leaves a bit to be desired. He's a cross between Elaine's boss, Peterman, from Seinfeld and Charleton Heston in Planet of the Apes, with perhaps, a dash of William Shatner thrown in for good measure. His perpetual over dramatization of simple text and character conversation was not only distracting, but comical in a satirical way that I'm sure the authors were not aiming for. It's difficult to understand how anyone could take this story teller seriously with his theatrically overdone narration. Check out the sample before you buy this book.

The narrator’s tone was over the top dramatic for me. It was a bit distracting. The story seemed like it was specifically written to be a movie and characters were a little cliche. All together pretty fun though.

This was an entertaining, action packed book. I did enjoy listening. I’ve heard this narrator on many other books and he does a great job, my main criticism is that they should have used a Hawaiian narrator with a more authentic accent and one that is fluent in Hawaiian language.
