Summary:

Elsie Porter is an average twentysomething and yet what happens to her is anything but ordinary. On a rainy New Year's Day, she heads out to pick up a pizza for one. She isn't expecting to see anyone else in the shop, much less the adorable and charming Ben Ross. Their chemistry is instant and electric. Within weeks, the two are head over heels in love. By May, they've eloped. Only nine days later, Ben is out riding his bike when he is hit by a truck and killed on impact. At the hospital, she must face Susan, the mother-in-law she has never met - and who doesn't even know Elsie exists.

I liked how the story told what was happening in the present but then also flashed back so you would know what happened leading up to the accident. I felt the grief that Elsie was exhibiting was understandable considering the amount of time she had with Ben. It wasn't enough and therefore she felt robbed of a lifetime with him. Plus, it didn't help that there were people around her who tried to undermine her grief because of the short amount of time she had with Ben. Elsie's story arc and her battle with grief was set up nicely, especially in the end. You feel proud of her and know that she'll be okay.

It was a strange book in many ways. There were times that I just wanted to put it away and never listen to another word and then times when it was very gripping. I thought that it was way to melodramatic at least as far as the amount of grief that the main character suffered. If you ever want to see the worst side of a women, this is definitely the book for you. The narrator, Tara Sands was very good and was one of the reasons that I listened to the end.
