The Republic of Gilead offers Offred only one function: to breed . If she deviates, she will, like dissenters, be hanged at the wall or sent out to die slowly of radiation sickness. Margaret Atwood is never an easy read - she enjoys making her readers work - Her books always draw you up short and make you think and dwell on her pressiance. Her books are fiction but so so near the truth, our reality now. She is so clever. All her books are masterpieces and deserve a re-read and there’s always more to soak up. Assumed the narrator was chosen to represent an older Offred but agree the last section should have a different voice

I loved the novel, not far from what Trump would like to do so it doesn’t surprise me why it’s such a hit right now. The narrator sounds old, like one of the aunts but it was ok

Well written but found it difficult to get into, not my preferred genre.

I wanted to read this book for years and it didn't disappoint.

Excellent book and still very relevant today. I cannot wait to discuss it with my book club. Unfortunately Joanna David was the wrong choice to narrate this distopian tale told by the protagonist Offred, a young American female voice. While David's diction and expression were fine her English accent sat badly with me and her wisely aged voice was not appropriate. Also the historical notes would have been better narrated by a male. Just to emphasise the point of that part in relation to the overall themes of the book. Attwood has created a masterpiece. I highly recommend this book just maybe by another narrator.

A well crafted novel which I got immersed into. I loved it!

Love the book as with some others in this genre, it really hits home decades later! Sorry but I didn't love the narrator.

Not loving the narrator. It's like I'm listening to Aunt Lydia. Loved the book

  • Julia G

    Terrible narration
