The House of Mirth

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Edith Wharton

Narrated By: Anna Fields

Publisher: Blackstone Audiobooks

Date: January 2006

Duration: 13 hours 41 minutes

An immensely popular best-seller when published in 1905, The House of Mirth was Edith Wharton's first great novel. Set among the elegant brownstones of New York City and opulent country houses like gracious Bellomont on the Hudson, the novel creates a satiric portrayal of what Wharton herself called "a society of irresponsible pleasure-seekers" with a precision comparable to that of Proust.

I love Historical fiction. Edith Wharton had such a command of the English language and an understanding of human nature, that she is able to describe feelings and situations in a way that you feel like you are a part of the person she is writing about. Sometimes it seemed like she was really getting off track and then she would weave the story back to where you wanted to be. This was an excellent book in my estimation.
