The detail is over the top. His style of writing is very creative and incredibly detail oriented. It does give a good feel for life in East Africa in the 19th century and told a story I wanted to learn about. Still working on the finish!

I enjoyed this book very much. There is quite a bit of detail that becomes tedious from time to time. However, even to tedium tells one something about the events that are being described. The description of the first encounter with Livingston is riveting.
