Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Suzanne Collins

Narrated By: Carolyn McCormick

Publisher: Scholastic Inc.

Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place.

Very good story! Hooked from the start! I went into book one apprehensively but love every minute!

What a Great book! I actually read this book and listened to it. I loved it! When you finish the book to leaves you wanting more and makes you run out and buy the second book. The charactors are so real that you feel you like you personally are involved with them. Recommended read!

Very entertaining story, better than expected. Would have expected a better reading though from McCormick. Sounded way too "mature" for a young girl's story. Still, you got used to it.

This is a great story. The characters are so real and I find myself drawn to them and hoping they beat the sadistic rulers of their world. In some ways, this reminds me of 1984 where people live in fear of their rulers. I'm eager to listen to all of the remaining books! Definitely worth listening or reading! In terms of the narrator, I've heard better narrators who are capable of changing their voices to match the different characters. Her voice for the young people, especially Katniss, sounds too old and not significantly different from her narrator's voice.

Good book but narration is poor: sounds as if a computer voice is reading words. However, my daughter got used to it!

It was an OK book, but I expected more... Katniss is a very boring character, couldn't stand her. The universe makes up for it I guess.
