Abridged Audiobook
This is a very well written, thorough, comprehensive and yet accessible guide to the history and wonder of chess. The author takes a balanced and nonjudgemental and respectful view of the people that he discusses. I have read a few books about the history of chess, and some of the authors seem to lack maturity in their approach to representing what are often quite complex people. The narrative is seamless but the subject matter is diverse – this is quite an achievement! For anyone with a passing interest in the immortal game, this book is a must! Highly recommend it! The narrator did an amazing job too. Listening to this was an absolute pleasure, and I will definitely be listening to this book again.
Very interesting, easy to listen to, but I felt there was more emphasis on the importance of the game. Also talks about some controversial issues with a one-sided view at the end.
