Summary:

There are stories no one knows. Hidden stories. I love those stories. And since I work in the National Archives, I find those stories for a living.Beecher White, a young archivist, spends his days working with the most important documents of the U.S. government. He has always been the keeper of other people's stories, never a part of the story himself...Until now. When Clementine Kaye, Beecher's first childhood crush, shows up at the National Archives asking for his help tracking down her long-lost father, Beecher tries to impress her by showing her the secret vault where the President of the United States privately reviews classified documents. After they accidentally happen upon a priceless artifact - a 200 hundred-year-old dictionary that once belonged to George Washington, hidden underneath a desk chair, Beecher and Clementine find themselves suddenly entangled in a web of deception, conspiracy, and murder.Soon a man is dead, and Beecher is on the run as he races to learn the truth behind this mysterious national treasure. His search will lead him to discover a coded and ingenious puzzle that conceals a disturbing secret from the founding of our nation. It is a secret, Beecher soon discovers, that some believe is worth killing for.Gripping, fast-paced, and filled with the fascinating historical detail for which he is famous, THE INNER CIRCLE is a thrilling novel that once again proves Brad Meltzer as a brilliant author writing at the height of his craft.

This is a terrible book. First time I have reported that for one. It starts out fairly intriguing but quickly goes down hill. I am not quite finished but it is so absurd and totally unlikely to ever happen that it is really annoying me. Also the details of the plot and changes in pro and con characters are totally unclear and make no sense. Why I went on this long, I do not know but I urge others not to waste time on this one.

The book itself was decent. It was longer than it should've been and I hope these characters are in another of Meltzer's books so I can get a feel for where they are now.

This is a slow moving adventure. I kept waiting for something to pop up to take it a good direction...nvever happened.

The book has elements of a thriller but the underlying plot is poor at best. I would not recommend it to anyone. Waste of time!!!

This book is badly in the need of editing. I returned it after I listened to one CD. And that was too long.

I have been listening to books for many years and this is a bad one. Ending drops off cliff with several plot elements left hanging. I couldn't believe it! Main character is pathetic and plot starts out promising but turns stupid. Avoid.

One of the worst books I ever read. A preposterous plot, tedious story-telling and characters to whom I could not relate. I kept on going because of a foolish belief that it had to get better. It didn't

Before renting this book, I read a terrible review written by another reader and thought, "Perhaps they just don't like the genre. The plot description sounds like something I would like." I will try to save others the waste of time I stupidly spent listening to this book, convinced it couldn't really be as bad as it started out. It was. It is. Move on. Don't fall for the plot description. This book is the worst thing I've read in many years.

I did not enjoy this book at all. The story had great potential, but the dialog was terrible and the storyline kept wandering. The hero of the story was a blithering idiot and it was difficult to sympathize with him. I really wanted someone to do him in.
