Kiss Me While I Sleep

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Linda Howard

Narrated By: Joyce Bean, Dick Hill

Publisher: Brilliance Audio

Date: September 2004

Duration: 10 hours 34 minutes

It's a job that makes a killing. Efficient, professional, and without apology, Lily Mansfield is a hired assassin, working as a contract agent for the CIA. Her targets are the powerful and corrupt, those who can't be touched by the law. Now, after 18 years of service, Lily has been drawn into a dangerous game that hasn't been sanctioned, seeking vengeance for her own reasons. Each move bolder than the next, she is compromising her superiors, drawing unwanted attention and endangering her very life. Though stress and shock have made her feel somewhat invincible and a little cocky, Lily knows that she too can be taken out in an instant. And if it's her time, so be it. She intends to go down fighting. A CIA agent himself, Lucas Swain recognizes the signs of trauma in the line of fire. His orders are to either bring her in or bring her down. Yet he too is drawn into the game with Lily Mansfield, dancing on a tightrope as he tries to avoid a major international incident while still battling a tenacious foe who is dogging their every step. Keeping laser focus on her task at hand while vigilantly watching her back, Mansfield never sees the lethal peril that lies directly in her path . . . and how loyalty has a price.

I enjoyed the first part of this book (5 or 6 CDs) - and I agree that the two voices worked well - but the later part of the book is terrible. Romance is not an appropriate description, it is basically just sex described in unpleasant detail for most of the last three CDs, with the plot largely gone by this point (apart from a few tenuous final plot twists). If you like seedy nonsense then you will like this, but I would have preferred it if the standard, style, action and characterisation of the first part was maintained.

Okay, folks, I might be the "black sheep" but I've gotta give this selection a big thumbs down. The two readers was a good idea, but nothing could have saved this corn-fest. The ending left me angry and scratching my head. I was angry that I'd spent 9 CD's of my life listening to this drivel, and confused that the story was over. There were times I thought I was reading a letter to Penthouse. To wrap this up, if you're thinking about renting this book, don't do it...gary

This book was excellent. You feel as if you are a voyeur in this woman's life, you understand her motivations. A Very good book to read over and over.

Good book, can't wait to get the second set of discs to finish it. I really like Linda Howards writing.

This was the first time "reading" anything by this author. It was wonderful. The two readers really brought the book to life. I didn't want to leave my car because I just had to hear more.

Both my husband and I spend a lot of time driving to and from work and both enjoyed listening to Linda Howard's books. The narration in this title was great. I like to see more male and female narration done.

I listen to these mostly while driving back & forth to work (30-40 min. drive) or while cleaning my house. With this story, I couldnt wait to get off work or get home and start where I left off. I liked that they used a female for all female parts & a male for all mail parts. Listening to their different accents & inflection of their vioces made it sound so realistic. The story itself was riviting, & there are many surprises in the story that will keep you guessing what will happen next & be so wrong. This story may bring out so many different emotions in you. It held my interest (eventhough 9 cd's long), made me laugh and almost cry, It makes me hope that a movie comes out and is as well made as this was.

Really enjoy Linda Howard and I would highly recommend this book. Plenty of mystery, one of those books that you are sorry when it's over. However the voice of Swain was very annoying.
