A Man Called Ove

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Fredrik Backman

Narrated By: George Newbern

Publisher: Dreamscape Media, LLC

Date: July 2014

Duration: 9 hours 11 minutes

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him 'the bitter neighbor from hell.' But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove's mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents' association to their very foundations.

"As Newbern reveals the events that made Ove into such a curmudgeon, with too big a heart, his straightforward, tender performance will have listeners laughing through their tears." - AudioFile Magazine

Everyone told me to read this book and it was every bit as good as they said it was! Not only extremely funny, but a poignant tear-jerker as well!

It took me a little bit to get into the book but I did and really like it. It has a great message.

Cute book. I finished it in about 4 days but I didn’t think it was as sad as everyone says it is. From chapter one the book leads right up to the obvious ending.

I just love this book. I have heard it two times and I could hear it again. It is a beautiful story and is written with an equal amount of humor and sadness. I love this author and his way of writing

I liked the book but got a little tired of the opening line to each chapter. The story pulled me in but I am glad I listened to it because I might not have finished it if I had read the book. The Narator kept me going and in doing so the ending is powerful and moving. I actually was crying! I have not done that since “Old Yeller.” I was 14 years old. It is worth a listen and character driven.

A great book with a wonderful message about family and friends. I laughed as many times and I cried. It was read so perfect by the narrator.

    Terrific book!

I want to listen to it all over again. It's that good.

Although I had a difficult time getting into the story, I suddenly found myself laughing or crying. I am thrilled that I didn’t give up on the story. It was finally obvious what his wife saw in him.
