Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Carol Dweck

Narrated By: Marguerite Gavin

Publisher: Gildan Media

Date: February 2009

Duration: 8 hours 36 minutes

A leading expert in motivation and personality psychology, Carol Dweck has discovered in more than twenty years of research that our mindset is not a minor personality quirk: it creates our whole mental world. It explains how we become optimistic or pessimistic. It shapes our goals, our attitude toward work and relationships, and how we raise our kids, ultimately predicting whether or not we will fulfill our potential. Dweck has found that everyone has one of two basic mindsets.

If you have the fixed mindset, you believe that your talents and abilities are set in stone--either you have them or you don't. You must prove yourself over and over, trying to look smart and talented at all costs. This is the path of stagnation. If you have a growth mindset, however, you know that talents can be developed and that great abilities are built over time. This is the path of opportunity-and success.

Dweck demonstrates that mindset unfolds in childhood and adulthood and drives every aspect of our lives, from work to sports, from relationships to parenting. She reveals how creative geniuses in all fields-music, literature, science, sports, business-apply the growth mindset to achieve results. Perhaps even more important, she shows us how we can change our mindset at any stage of life to achieve true success and fulfillment. She looks across a broad range of applications and helps parents, teachers, coaches, and executives see how they can promote the growth mindset.

Highly engaging and very practical, Mindset breaks new ground as it leads you to change how you feel about yourself and your future.

I found this inspiring. to find out that thoughts and feelings about myself could be changed and that I can grow to be a better father, partner, friend and teacher has really opened my eyes. This will be a hard road but I feel excited about it rather then saying to myself "this all just sounds too hard". I just hope I can convey these ideas and though patterns to my kids and my students.

The narrator reads too fast. There are passages that are hardly understandable

The delivery was clear, articulate, and easy to follow. I have also used Audio Books to hear several great plays.

OK so I do not read much. I have a habit of starting a book but never finishing the book. I must say that this book is a must. The book is inspirational, motivational, and informative. You can and will take something from this book that you will use in your everyday life. The book will make you change the way you think. Your mindset on things will be completely different.

Thought it confirmed a lot about fixed personalities and growth personalities. If you are into astrology it goes into more detail about these types of people. Weirdly enough just another way to explain mutable signs, fixed signs. cardinal signs and how to understand them best except the author expresses that one can change their mindset, which to some extent I can see her point but based on real life observations don't really believe so unless a person is leaning more one way or another and just needs a little push.

Great book! Really helpful. But, the narrator is too fast and a little robot-like.

Great content. Felt like the narrator was a bit stiff and robot-like. But overall very enlightening and useful.
