Mother of Shadows

WOW! What a brilliant and imaginative world Meg Anne creates! Her story telling will activate all your senses! Meeting Helena and learning what it means to be a Damaskiri was the focus of most of this book. I loved getting to know the different members of her circle and all the other side characters in the book. When Von and Helena get together, it's steamy. Von is another #MenbyMeg that will leave you swooning. So listen with headphones in! Noelle does a great job voicing the characters and helping to bring the characters in the world of The Chosen to life! If you love paranormal fantasy with steamy scenes, lots of adventure and a coming-of-age type story, you will love Mother of Shadows!

Helena is a a young girl who is going to find out what she has instore for her. What she don't know is, She has come into her magic she never knew she had. And circle of protectors that are willing to lay down their life for her. All she needs is a mate and that's where she meets Von and she knows right away that he is hers. When they are married and set out to Von's homeland things come to play and people betray Helena and Von is taken what would she do get him back and take care of her people and her mates people and find him. This book is amazing has all kinds of things going. Love the characters and the story line. It keeps you on the edge of seat. The narrator was spot on and brought out every emotion and feeling that I didn't want it to end. So looking forward to the next one.

I need more Helena and Von. Can't wait to listen to the next book in the series. Helena was raised to believe that she's "nothing special" and it turns out that she's a Damaskiri that was prophesized, and hidden to keep her identify protected. The world that Meg Anne created is so magical and intriguing. Add to it the fact that the two main characters, Helena and Von, are both totally new to the concept of love and being chosen. Each of them has grown up believing that they are something less than what they are, that they deserve less than what they can get, and all of that changes practically instantly for them. Meg Anne has created a captivating story that is narrated well by Noelle Bridges. I'm looking forward to getting more of this story.

Helena is very sweet, good hearted and a little naive at times. She was born with a tremendous amount of power and responsibility. Helena was hidden away as a baby to protect her from those who would do her harm. Suddenly as she comes to age she is thrust into a world she has never known and expected to be the Damaskiri (Queen) of the Chosen (magical beings). Helena has a lot to learn and figure out but she does it with unwavering determination. One of the tasks Helena is faced with is finding a life mate. There are many suitors that come forth to pledge themselves to her but none of them catch her eye like Von does. Something about him calls to her. Von has a darkness to him. He’s strong, skilled and deadly. Most people look at Von and think he’s a terrible and untrustworthy man but there is more to him than they want to believe. Imagine his surprise when Helena unexpectedly stands up for him and shows interest in him. The road they travel together is not an easy one. It’s one peppered with trials and hardships but also filled with love and devotion. I loved Mother of Shadows. So much so that I went and got the second book immediately after finishing this one. I’m very glad this author was recommended to me.
