Duration: 10 hours 36 minutes

Meet Odd Thomas, the unassuming young hero of Dean Koontz’s dazzling New York Times bestseller, a gallant sentinel at the crossroads of life and death who offers up his heart in these pages and will forever capture yours.

“The dead don’t talk. I don’t know why.” But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Sometimes the silent souls who seek out Odd want justice. Occasionally their otherworldly tips help him prevent a crime. But this time it’s different.

A stranger comes to Pico Mundo, accompanied by a horde of hyena-like shades who herald an imminent catastrophe. Aided by his soul mate, Stormy Llewellyn, and an unlikely community of allies that includes the King of Rock ’n’ Roll, Odd will race against time to thwart the gathering evil. His account of these shattering hours, in which past and present, fate and destiny, converge, is a testament by which to live—an unforgettable fable for our time destined to rank among Dean Koontz’s most enduring works.

I wasn’t a fan of all the descriptors but this book was never boring. It gets deeper as it goes on. The ending punched me in the gut! Oof.

I'm usually a dean koontz fan but this book was terrible. I downloaded based off all the high reviews and I have to strongly disagree. The book was slow, overly descriptive, and dragged on and on with almost no action. I fast forwarded through a few parts hoping it would pick up and it never did. Do not waste your credit, not a good book at all. Narrator was good however.

This is one of my favorite book series. Read the book. Seen the movie. Read the book again. You feel what Thomas feels. And I don't know why I would want to feel what he feels. Odd.

  • Gwendolyn Gaither

This was my first Dean Koontz novel. I do like the Odd Thomas character and look forward to listening to others. Narration was great.

  • Tia Szendi-Horvath

I love this series! The narrator fits the main character perfectly!

  • Rick L

Great story! Well paced and very entertaining with humor, suspense and action woven together to really keep you at the edge of your seat with anticipation. I also feel David Aaron Baker does a great job reading this story as well.

Odd Thomas is my favorite Dean Koontz hero. Here is hoping that Koontz never tires of writing adventures for Odd.

  • Tammy W.

Took me years cause I never was piqued with interest when reading what the books are about, now I can't wait for the next! And the narrator was great.

Started slow, but then hooked. Great characters. Suspenseful. I cried so hard in my car people must have thought I was nuts.

  • Annie

This is my first Dean Koontz novel. LOVED IT. Odd is such a great character. The narration was also really good.

Love this character. Hope more "Odd" books are in the works. Beautifully written and narrated! I would rate this book a 6 if I could.

Maybe this just isnt my genre but I could not get into this book. I kept waiting for it to get interesting and it never really did.

At first I did not like the reader but soon found it a great match for Odd. A great book I plan to listen to the rest of the Odd Thomas books.

  • Shirley Cogburn

I haven't been listening to books on CD's long but I am so glad this was one of the first ones I listened to. Can't wait to hear more from this author,

  • Beverly

This was great. Creepy, suspenseful, with humor and an undercurrent of sadness too. I plan on renting the rest of the Odd Thomas books.

  • br67tb

Not Koontz's best book - I was also dissappointed that some of the CD's had scratches on them.

  • KB

A little too odd for me. Read the first chapter twice, then gave up.

  • Mattie Wheeler

my husband really got into this more than me. it took me awhile but has a great twist at the end....odd is really a wonderful character and you will find yourself wanting to know what the next chapter in his life is...so...my next request was forever odd...you just gotta know...enjoy..will give you a nice ride in the car

  • Tammy Henson

I enjoyed the character Odd Thomas so much that I went out and purchased the next Odd Thomas novel. Not a complicated plot but a nice easy listen for my commute.

  • Michael Scott

While I like much of his older works, his newer stuff can be cheesy at times. This one wasn't too bad. This one wasn't that bad. I found the narration verging on annoying at first, but after the 1st 10min, grew to like it, and started looking forward to my commute, so I could hear what was happening next. There are points in this book though, that make me wonder if it is actually a sequel to a previous book of his that I may have missed.

  • Pamela Galvin

I love Odd, I keep talking to the cd in my car but the story was suspenseful and I could wait for the next car ride to work. I got the sequel for bedtime reading.

Highly recommend for all Dean Koontz fans. Odd Thomas is such a likeable guy, he held my interest from start to finish. And I had no trouble listening to this book while I was driving.

Odd Thomas is one of the greatest Fictional characters I've ever read about. I feel like I know him. He is peculiar, yet ordinary. I may have to rent it again after listening to Part 2 - Forever Odd!

  • Christy

If you didn't finish this one, you're really missing out! Great twist ending, just a great story. Koontz really pulls you in. If you like a good ghost story, this one is definitely for you!

  • Lynn Stinchcomb

Sometimes I like Dean Koontz, sometimes I don't. This time I loved Dean Koontz. What a likeable fellow old Odd is. Loved the story and loved the twist at the end. He got me!

  • Teresa

Returned after disc 3. Just couldn't endure the long descriptions that made my mind wonder when I was driving. Just not a good driving audio and that's my need and preference.

  • Anonymous

While this audio selection started a little slow, once I got into the meat of the book, I was hooked. Odd Thomas is a likeable character and I look forward to reading more about him in the follow-up book.

  • Suzanne R

This is my first Dean Koontz story and now I am hooked! I loved the charactors and although at first I thought the reader was monotone, he got better as he read along! Gripping story, intense and scary in some parts but I was captivated after the first chapter. I would highly recommend this book. Enjoy!

  • Dan Pressley

It has been a long time since I read/listened to a Dean Koontz book. Mostly because they all started to seem similar. This book stood out as an excellent book. It was very suspenseful with complete character developments. I really wished it would not have ended. I look forward to the sequel next.

Odd Thomas was a great book. It's main character was a likable guy. It was read in a way that kept me waiting to see what was next. The ending was sad and surprising. This author is excellent.

  • Chyla Sigler

great book, ive really enjoyed listening. a very suspenseful book

This was my first Koontz book on CD and I was very pleasantly surprised. I normally go for the detective, mystery novels, so this book was a great change of pace.

  • Anonymous

I enjoyed the book very much. There were some surprising twists and, for the most part, the story was quite interesting. It did get a little long in a couple of places and could have been shortened by a disc or two.

  • Anonymous

Good story but it could have been wrapped up in 2 discs.

  • Michael Taylor

This was the first Novel that I listened to on Audio, and I was spoiled. The story was excellent, great twists great fiction. Outstanding & likeable (or purposely unlikeable characters). I was hoping for a more interesting relationship between the main character & his association with his parents, but it was fleeting & kind of unnecessary. If you like the genre this stands out, I would go out to the car during my lunch break just to hear more.

  • Steve

I chose this book mostly for the Dean Koontz name. I was pleasantly surprised at how the story, though somewhat slow, kept my interest. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I came to like the characters especially Odd. Overall I found the book mildy freaky but not scary and it even had a few laughs. Excellently written, but not something I would choose to be scared as with some other Koontz books.

  • nottelling

Odd Thomas isn't a bad book, but it's the same story as some of Koontz's other books. If it's your first Koontz book, get it. If not, look elswhere.

  • Linda Osborne

Excellent book! The story was great, even better than I expected and the sound quality was wonderful. Well written, well read. I would highly recommend this book.

  • S.K.

This was a great book. You really feel the emotions of the main characters. The ending was the best kind, unexpected and very surprising. Wanted more. Hope Mr Koontz writes an Odd Thomas 2.

  • Ronald Clay

Odd Thomas is a character that could easily be your brother with his sense of purposefulness and thought processes. The setting of the book is like any small town in America. Great story line, easy to visualize when the narrator spoke, I was disappointed when the story ended.

  • Wendy Largey

This story is fast moving, strange, and a bit scarey. The narrator captures the essense of Odd Thomas and all the other characters perfectly, making it very easy to imagine these people interacting with each other. Even Elvis! I truly enjoyed this story and was sad when it ended.
