Perelandra is a planet of pleasure, an unearthly, misty world of strange desires, sweet smells, and delicious tastes, where beasts are friendly and naked beauty is unashamed, a new Garden of Eden, where the story of the oldest temptation is enacted in an intriguingly new way. Here, in the second part of C. S. Lewis’ acclaimed Ransom Trilogy, Dr. Ransom’s adventures continue against the backdrop of a religious allegory that, while it may seem quaint in its treatment of women today, nonetheless shows the capability of science to be an evil force tempting a ruler away from the path that has produced a paradisiacal kingdom. Will Perelandra succumb to this malevolent being, who strives to create a new world order, or will it throw off the yoke of corruption and achieve a spiritual perfection as yet unknown to man?

One of my two favorite books of fiction. Excellent read.

This is an excellent piece by CS Lewis. Lewis provides a rich and colorful setting for a profound and multilayered character-driven story that is both a familiar theme and surprising in it's originality. This story reaches high into elevated subject matter, beautiful and sublime enough to be compared to a painting, but also has elements that are terrifying enough to be compared to a horror film. Lewis does an excellent job writing a story in that genre that fuses Science fiction and fantasy, but this also bring's Lewis's extremely rare ability to expound on rarified themes in a fresh and clear way. This was an excellent addition to the space trilogy in that it continues and builds on the first book, Out of the Silent Planet, without being a repetition at all. It is extremely different in tone and content. It could be a stand alone book, but you would need the background of the first book to understand the action of the second. This book was ahead of it's time like HG Wells and is also timeless like the chronicles of Narnia. I'm looking forward to reading the third. The narrator is British and does an excellent job interpreting and presenting Lewis's material. He speaks clearly and performs, rather than reading in monotone, without overlaying his own interpretation over whatever the reader might come up with.

The space Trilogy is quickly becoming one of my new favorite book trilogies. I already love C.S. Lewis's writings and these books are not disappointing in the least.

I think it's too confusing the first 4 chapters and then it gets better but it's mostly boring I fell asleep when I was listening to it at like 7:00-8:00 but it gets better it's just hard to pay attention
