The book itself was rather predictable, but the way it was written gave a great insight into the time before, during and after the hurricane and furthermore has shown the family dynamics of the life after the mothers death quite well.

A real insight into the rural poverty of Black Americans and what they suffered over hurricane Katrina. A very real story, intense and totally believable. Well written and narrated. Raw and brutal.

I found it rather intense, but I struggle with complex fiction. Some American phrases went over my head but overall it's a book full of content that set my mind thinking. good narrator.

I thought the book was beautifully written, incredibly descriptive, which sometimes made it difficult to listen to. As a dog lover I found the dog fighting tough. I could really visualize and feel Katrina, and the poverty of the people in the story. It took a bit of getting into but I looked forward to my daily commute to listen to the next installment!

I loved this book. I ended up researching Hurricane Katrina. It reminded me of the lives of so many people who could not evacuate because they financially could not afford to. It also reminded me of the suffering that came after and the length of time people had to wait for help. Of course most of those who suffered were African Americans. This book was a story about poverty, race and social justice.
