Unabridged Audiobook
An intricate and beautifully written book which also has its laugh-out-loud moments in its rendering of 14 year old boarders at an Irish boys’ school. Like The Bee Sting, the author explores deep themes of what it is to be human and connecting with others. I loved it. And the narration is superb, like listening to a play, skilfully delivered by just one, extraordinary actor.
Brilliantly narrated, but a flawed novel which in the end is not quite sure where it is going or what it is about. It attempts to draw together elements of Irish pre-history with other more recent events up to and including modern physics and string theory, but there is an massive implausibility to the use of 14 year old boys as voices in this quest.
