This last book in the series is not up to the standard of the previous ones; that it was finished by another author is apparent. However, overall I regret having finished the last one I regret that there is not another. Charlie Mordecai will live in me for a long time, as well as the incomparable Jock. Charlie's amorality in most things, his misogyny, and his general disdain for all things modern or non-English are funny and a welcome relief from the oh-so-serious cant and refusal to listen to wrong-headed ideas of today. I hope that there is another Bonfiglioni somewhere waiting the final nudge to write. As for Simon Prebble, masterful as usual.

I really enjoyed this author up until this book when I started catching on to his sexist comments about women. I couldn't even finish this one. Very disappointed.

The story was a bit gruesome at times and I didn't care much for the treatment of the women in the book, but I did thoroughly enjoy the authors writing style. Witty and acerbic.

If you like listening to narcissist alcoholic nihilists, ears being nailed-then-ripped from tree trunks, and the exploits of vicious serial rapists, then this book is for you. It really was not something I wanted to sit through on my daily commute, however.
