I don't understand why this book was frowned upon. This book shows the reality not only back then but now. Lutie Johnson, a single mother trying to survive and provide for her son, Bub, in Harlem New York. Not having the funds nor experience needed, she does what she has to do to make ends meet. The Super, Leary, a woman abuser, manipulator, thief, crook or whatever else recruited Bub while Lutie was at work. Bub being naive, he ended up getting arrested and thrown in a juvenile center. All because Lutie wouldn't give him a chance, hmmmm men and their fragile egos. Meanwhile the women get labeled whores, sluts, and etc. Race, poverty, male chovanistic society, social status, single mothers, bullying are all highlights in this book. #Book33of2021 #BookLover #bookworm #whatsnext
