Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Gregory Boyle

Narrated By: Gregory Boyle

Publisher: HighBridge Company

Date: March 2011

Duration: 7 hours 37 minutes

Summary:

As a pastor working in a neighborhood with the highest concentration of murderous gang activity in Los Angeles, Gregory Boyle created an organization to provide jobs, job training, and encouragement so that young people could work together and learn the mutual respect that comes from collaboration. Tattoos on the Heart is a breathtaking series of parables distilled from his twenty years in the barrio. Arranged by theme and filled with sparkling humor and glowing generosity, these essays offer a stirring look at how full our lives could be if we practiced compassion.

Erudite, down-to-earth, and utterly heartening, these essays about universal kinship and redemption are moving examples of the power of unconditional love in difficult times and the importance of fighting despair. With Gregory Boyle's guidance, we can recognize our own wounds in the broken lives and daunting struggles of the men and women in these parables and learn to find joy in all of the people around us. Tattoos on the Heart reminds us that no life is less valuable than another.

This book is hands down the best ever given to me. Firmly grounded in both reality and faith it is a funny and heart-breaking/heart-filling antidote to the sense of separateness and judging of others we so easily fall into. A miracle of a book.

You will cry and laugh out loud all at the same time. Beautifully written and what a treat to have it narrated by Father Boyle! He has a new fan and I've already ordered from Homeboys for my bundt cake. Thank you for a profound book.

I loved this book! I'm so glad he narrated it himself. It was very inspiring. I learned so much from him regarding why these young kids go certain paths. I didn't want this book to end.

What a beautiful book. A lot of the stories are sad but you can't help but be inspired by the author, who is also the narrator. He is very funny and witty too, so I found myself laughing with him and some stories more times than I expected. I finish this book with a better understanding of why a lot of these "kids" end up in this terrible lifestyle, in gangs.

Fabulous book. Enjoyed it tremendously. I'm always inspired by people who have the gift to connect with others and make a diffence. I also enjoyed Fr. Boyle's Irish humor woven into his stories. Thumbs up!
