The Silent Wife

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: A. S. A. Harrison

Narrated By: Karen White, Donald Corren

Date: June 2013

Duration: 8 hours 59 minutes

A chilling psychological thriller about a marriage, a way of life, and how far one woman will go to keep what is rightfully hers

Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater; she lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds; she likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps; she has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can't be made, and promises that won't be kept. Expertly plotted and reminiscent of Gone Girl and These Things Hidden, The Silent Wife ensnares the listener from page one and never lets go.

I couldn't stand the narrator. She sounded like a robot. Over all I liked the story line.

The silent wife is a little bit unexpected to me and I like the way the novel works in two different view of the husband and wife. It appeals to me how the changes in life can lead to such a wild change in persons or their actions. Love is an eternal thing but it changes naturally. Only the companionship and the time can help to mend or discover how wonderful these people used to be. What is done is done and no one can get it fixed, especially death. Regrets may somehow erodes into the life of the committer or the one who thought of committing something evil. This gets me thinking a lot since we have heard a lot about the cheating during relationships. But this novel is still a wonder to listen to! Love the narrators way of saying things to lead me to more thinking in depth! Highly recommend!

The book itself kept me interested only because I was waiting for the twist. And there is a minor one at the end that still kept me expecting more. The book left many questions unanswered, very disappointed. The narrator was terrible. I felt like a robot was reading the book.

If you were a fan of Gone Girl, this will be right up your alley. A bit underwhelming in delivery, but the ending has a slight twist and the story moves quickly. Wasn't a huge fan of the reading voices, but over all a good listen.

  • Beth Fuhlrodt

WAY to many adjectives! Takes two paragraphs just to get to the point. Narrators voices are bland. Waste of a credit

  • Jonni Phillips

Took way to long to get story going and boring storyline.

  • Melissa Witt

Narrator is terrible. Her voice raises and lowers at the wrong times. Makes the story very choppy. Gave up on trying to listen. A shame for the book author.

  • Kelly M

The women narrator did sound like a robot as times. Not my favorite book but wasn’t awful either. Just didn’t have an urge to listen to it as much as I have with other books!

  • Laura Hurst

Great story...loved it! I couldn't wait to see what happens next!
