The Silver Linings Playbook: A Novel

Unabridged Audiobook

Written By: Matthew Quick

Narrated By: Ray Porter

Publisher: Blackstone Audiobooks

Date: September 2008

Duration: 7 hours 20 minutes

Summary:

During his years in a neural health facility, Pat Peoples has formulated a theory about silver linings. He believes that his life is a movie produced by God, that his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and that if he succeeds, his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife, Nikki.

When Pat goes to live with his parents, everything seems changed: no one will talk to him about Nikki, his old friends are saddled with families, and his new therapist seems to be recommending adultery as a form of therapy. Then, Pat meets the tragically widowed and clinically depressed Tiffany, who offers to act as a liaison between him and his wife-provided he gives up watching football, agrees to perform in this year's Dance Away Depression competition, and promises not to tell anyone about their "contract."

"Matthew Quick has created quite the heartbreaker of a novel in The Silver Linings Playbook."-Kirkus Reviews

The book is very different from the movie. They're both very good. The author overdoes the childlike narration a bit for my taste, but still an interesting story told well.

Very good story, excellent narrator! Some parts of the book had me smiling as I was listening. I'm glad I took the time to listen to it before seeing the movie.

I haven't watched the movie but wanted to read the book first. It was very good and well narrated. I suspect the movie cut out a lot of the book.
